My observation after watching about 4 games of the Rafa match:

Holy Balls!

Donaldson didn't belong on the court with him.

Say what you want about autistic Jared, but let's leave sweet Lucie out of this.

The end of Stevie/Shapo was pretty compelling.

I saw the beginning, and texted my fellow fantasy tennis nerds that every single point Shapo hit a shot that Stevie could never hit once in his lifetime.

Shapo still has work to do to turn his shotmaking into elite wins, but the chasm between his skill and Stevie's was pretty apparent.

Stevie J is probably one of the most over achieving pros of all time. he has a decent first serve and a plus forehand but really nothing other than that except for mental toughness.

This is not that weird...

Circling back on this...

He originally said he can't hit a 1-handed backhand with pace. I said that seemed weird to me. The key words being "to me". No, I'm not a tennis coach, and no I don't claim to know if a certain percentage of the population can or cannot hit a 1-handed backhand with pace. And I'm not about to look it up and have a debate on it.

From my (limited) experience, most people I know can hit a 1-hander harder than a 2-hander. They just have trouble controlling it... which, oddly enough, is exactly what you and I both said.

It's like if someone said, "I can hit a 2-hand forehand but can't hit a 1-hander with pace". Yes, I know it's not exactly the same thing, but wouldn't that seem weird to you? If your answer is No, that's fine. I don't really care. It's not a subject that's important enough to argue about.

Stan's one hander is one of the best shots in tennis history.

I beg to differ. It isn't even one of the best backhands in tennis history.

Pretty sure he meant in comparison to all other 1-handers

Doesn't look that way to me.

Perhaps we should ask him.

regardless of semantics my point was that Stans backhand is really good. hopefully we can all agree on that.

He should have been DQ'd.

Rafa has such good manners, no?

I tried that with my boss regarding a meeting and he didn't respond as kindly.

In the interest of, well nothing really, other than making myself look bad... once upon a time I picked Autistic Jared to have the best career out of the young American guys at the time. I can't find the post, but it was around 2016 I believe.

I still think he has the height, build, and game to do a lot better. It just hasn't happened. Of course the other young Americans haven't panned out either, with the exception of Tiafoe to some extent.

Thiem vs Simon (both seeded) - no airtime

two nobodies from canada and japan (neither seeded) - full coverage

edit: well there was the replay of the Thiem/Simon set point. Now back to your regularly scheduled battle of the nobodies.

Bold or maybe not so bold prediction: Felix Auger-Aliassime will end the season ranked in the top 20 this year.

sounds reasonable. if he puts on about 15 lbs of muscle continues to develop his game (kind of a given) the sky's the limit
