Conversely, OSU is going to struggle acclimating to sunny Southern California in January. That's a thing too, in the weather debate. It's a real thing. Your body gets used to cold weather then gets dropped into warm weather and your muscles are tight and your body overheats.

It's why Big Ten teams look like they're running in mud in the Rose Bowl.

I'm actually thinking Oregon wins the Rose Bowl even after seeing a dominant OSU win tonight.

Will be tough since they definitely don’t work out in a beautiful climate controlled facility

Let’s not forget that Oregon is playing in balmy 70 degree weather

You officially have my request to start the Rose Bowl thread.

That’s the only cheers you will ever get from me.

Weather arguments and narratives in football are maybe the dumbest of them all. Kids from Florida or Texas get drafted by Buffalo or Green Bay and suddenly they’re “built to win cold weather”. The whole conversation is dumb as frick

Correct.

I live in Missouri, temps can be 100 degrees in September and -10 in January, it could also be 70 degrees in September and 55-60 degrees in January...football players have to adjust to whatever the weather conditions are on game day, it's the same conditions for both teams.

Ha. I’m sure someone will jump on it that day. The Rose Bowl will be lit. I make a nice chunk of change if guys win the whole enchilada, so I won’t be too disappointed if it happens.

Nothing replaces being better at football for winning football games Ohio State won this game because they are talented as hell and now have a chip on their shoulder. Not some ridiculous weather narrative

Every coach in the world would want the more talented team going into a game, but, especially true in endurance athletes, and even in explosive sports like football, weather acclimization can be the tipping point between winning and losing.

When you are acclimated to the heat, your cappilary system is dilated, your blood plasma increases, and your sweat rate increases. You become more efficient at dissipating core body heat. It usually takes 7-10 days of training in the heat to acclimate.

Cold acclimating is the opposite- if you’re not accustomed to the cold, you will shiver more, less blood flow to your limbs, and burn more energy keeping your core warm. Tennessee came out shirtless for warm ups last night to look “tough”. The looked dumb as they were burning a lot more calories during their warm up than they needed to.

Here’s a good example - the Philadelphia Eagles got boat raced physically in Tampa Bay in a late September game. It was ungodly hot and humid, the Philly area had been in 70 degree, low humidity mode for weeks. You could see the team wilted under the heat. The Eagles have been mauling teams for the last two months since that loss.

If performing in the cold wasn’t a thing, the Buffalo Bills wouldn’t be building a new open air stadium.

Was there in 2019, OSU boat raced Washington for 3 quarters, the warmest part of that game. It got really cold in the 4th and OSU did everything to try to give game back during that time.

When I think of nice, warm, sunny weather, Eugene in December usually comes to mind
