Actually that was the 47 vote not 41 (DiMaggio won 41 pretty easily)
So he got fricked twice

DiMaggio got it in '41, because he had the 56 game hitting streak (Williams' avg was higher during that period) and the Yankees beat the Red Sox for the pennant by 17 games.

Now in 1942 and 1947 Williams won the Triple Crown and was not selected MVP in either season.
Had he won the MVP those 2 years he would have been the reigning MVP from '42 through the end of the '48 season. Since there was no MVP a few years due to the war.

I understand he was hated by the media, but MVPs back then it seemed regularly played for playoff teams

He was overshadowed (unfairly) by a stacked Yankees team that won the World Series 11 times in his career and the pennant 15 times

Think I read that after Bryce’s 2015 season the 40 MVPs before that only 5 didn’t make the playoffs

The thing about Williams is that he was Sabermetric before it even existed. His hitting philosophy is what everyone now wants.

Only K’d 709 times in 7706 at bats. That’s anti sabermetric, if anything it makes Williams Tony Gwynn with power

Striking out doesn’t make you sabermetric. LOL

Williams pulled the ball for power and swung for HRs regardless of the count

But showed discipline, leading the league in walks 8 times

He was about as 3 outcome as a player you could find. He just wasn’t very good at the bad outcome

K’s is still a big part of the 3 True Outcomes so, in my opinion, that doesn’t make Williams that type of hitter since he never struck out. When I think of that kind of guy I think more of an all or nothing guy like Dunn or Gallo who only look to hit homers and nothing else. You don’t hit .344 for your career and hit 525 doubles being a 3 True Outcomes guy. Yes he did walk a lot but I think that’s more a reflection of his command of the strike zone and the fact that he didn’t give at bats away or guess hit which is so common today.

His #1 commandment was 'get a good pitch to hit'.
All the other theories and techniques mean jack shite if you swing at pitches you can't do anything with.

He was probably the first to insist the best swing was a slight upswing. Today, launch angle is the latest Big Thing.

I don't understand how you arrive at this.

He was 2021/709 BB/Ks in his career
4th all time in BBs
14th in War
8th in Avg.
1st in OBP
2nd in Slug
2nd in OPS
20th in HR
could go on and on

all while 118th in games played.

Gwynn:
790/434 BB/SO
108th in War
111th in OBP
192th in OPS
74th in games played.

The only similarity between the 2 is avg.
Both are top 20 all time but that is pretty much where the similarities end.

But on the flip side he was absolutely great with kids
That's kind of ironic, because from what I recall, everyone who knew his son hated him with a passion. When he (his son) died, no one lamented it one bit. They railed about what an intolerable a-hole he was.

His youngest daughter hated him. His son actually spent the most time with him, even cared for him, albeit b/c he used him for his own device.

Ted felt like he owed it to him for not being there for any of his children’s lives.

Ted married models, but his soulmate ended up being more like a man than a woman, and she was barely recognized in public.

I don't get the significance, but his most recent bio spent considerable time on it. A new angle, I guess.

Leave it to a writer.

You know, I'll take that 'sportswriter' comment as a compliment, but Ted sure wouldn't.
