It's crazy to think that the bullpen in right field wasn't there when he played. Scary to think how many HRs he would have in modern day Yankee stadium.

Ted Williams?
When he played the old Yankee stadium was 296 down the right field line and had the same short porch it does now for the majority of his career

Watching his documentary made me kind of wish I'd not learned about his personality. He was pretty shitty sometimes. But I guess it takes that kind of selfishness to be that great at anything

But on the flip side he was absolutely great with kids and was very charitable for any sort of kid related org.

I've read everything on the man, been to the museum in Citrus Hills before it was moved to Tropicana, formed a relationship with an old guide he used when his health was failing in exchange for signed memorabilia, and spent an afternoon with an old teammate that rode to Spring Training with him one year.

I'm guessing you're an old sportswriter that maybe covered him one year at Spring Training? Or just a well read fan, like me?

The 1941 AL MVP going to that Yankee a-hole is the biggest robbery in sports awards history.

I don’t know much about voting back then.
But i feel like if it’s just like the 90s and early 2000s (save Arod in 05)
MVP was normally given to a player on the team the made the playoffs

It had more to do with his hatred of reporters who were the voters for the award.

Gotcha
Just looking at those years quickly all those teams (with the MVP) won their league
Like Ted in 46

It had everything to do with a Boston alcoholic writer named Col. Dave Egan

Williams lost by one point in a vote where writers gave 10 points to 1st and 1 point to 10th

Egan didn't put Williams on his ballot

Yikes
ETA: Actually that was the 47 vote not 41 (DiMaggio won 41 pretty easily)
So he got fricked twice

To be fair to Egan, he was one of the very few Boston sportswriters with the balls to call out Yawkey for his racism and refusal to integrate the Red Sox. But his treatment of Ted Williams was definitely inexcusable and beyond the pale.
