Tech is attempting to establish itself as the best football program in the state.
Do you try to hit a home-run by not swinging?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Once again, you ULM tards continue to entertain me! Lumping Tech in with the Juco in Funroe, what a joke!! Your team/school sucks so pathetically that you have to cling to LSU because you "know your place." Apparently you don't "know your place," because you're talking down to Tech fans/alumni. We were never in your shitty conference, and were in the Big West and were independent for quite a while before joining the WAC. Keep this up, because this laughter helps get me through the day. I can TASTE your frustration with the fact that you'll never be Tech. I'll be glad when the state legislature turns University of Lower Mentality back into a community college like it should be, and then we won't even have to hear from you poor, defeated bastards on Bayou Desiard anymore.
Keep wasting your energy typing your frustrations out on this LSU board. Maybe an LSU fan will feel sorry for you and glorify your whining with a post in your favor, but I doubt it. You'll have to excuse me while I now go hang out with my friends at the grown-ups table.

Trust me, being an arrogant a-hole is not on the priority list of ULM fans.

There are some Tech fans who also pull for LSU, but it doesn't appear to be at the same level as ULM grads
I think one of the reasons for this is that most of Tech's students are not from Ruston and live on campus, while most of ULM's students are from Monroe. They are not as involved in the campus community as they are at Tech.
I'm sure most in this thread hate guys like me, though. Born and raised in (West) Monroe, went to graduate school at ULM, went to undergrad at Tech and lived in Ruston for 7 years. But I root for LSU to kick both their asses every time they play. I have some other theories on why that is, but mainly just that 4 years at Tech was not enough to overcome the wonderful memories I had of my dad taking me to Tiger Stadium once or twice a year growing up. LSU is my first love and will always come first.

Ouch! Way to spurn your fellow North Louisianians, bro! However, I guess I can't HATE you for growing up as an LSU fan. I can understand that since I was brought up as a Saints fan, regardless of anywhere I've lived throughout life. I had been to a few LSU games growing up, but it was not popular at all to cheer for them in my high school. It was all Tech pretty much, and we didn't even really see LSU in our media or nightly television news. This whole "LSU as the state's team" business really didn't get going until 2003. They won over a LOT of fans with that championship. Anyway, I grew up on Tech, went there, and am tied to the area, so I'll always be a Bulldawg and never a Tiger (no offense).

I think Tech--at least when I was there(96-00)--did a pretty terrible job of marketing their product. Especially to students. Even more so to students who didn't live on campus. There just never seemed to be a tangible excitement about the team. Gameweek was never anything special. And I was there during the Crowton/Rattay/Troy Edwards days. And their lack of home games has really hurt the support, too, imho.
My favorite memories of Tech football were actually during the late 80s/early 90s. I remember Bobby Slaughter(can't remember who was throwing him balls back then), the 2 Jasons at TB, etc...One of the best games I ever attended was the Tech/Maryland Independence Bowl in '90. But I could never get behind them enough to miss an LSU game--even if it was just on the radio.

True, but there are a lot of us NLAers who grew up on Tommy Hodson/Eddie Fuller/Sammy Martin/Tony Moss, etc...who never left the bandwagon--even during the Archer/Hallman days.

None taken, by any means. Tech needs guys like you. You are vital to the success of their program. I almost feel guilty sometimes for not being that way. But not for long.
also, I'm in another grad program at Tech right now(1st quarter) and have been really impressed with how Ruston has grown. I wish it had been that nice while I was there. Apartment in the outfield of J.C. Love-what?
Posted on 10/2/09 at 5:08 pm to Hot Carl
How right you are, buddy. You hit the nail SQUARELY on the head. Tech never did market itself and the old athletic administration never realized what a gold mine the place was. FORTUNATELY, they've finally got people in place that VERY aggressively are building and marketing. Those apartments in J.C. Love Field's outfield ARE freakin' amazing, and I wish I'd had those as well. I stayed in Caruthers and Hutcheson which are now slated to be demolished, finally.
I actually wasn't a Bearcat, but I had friends that were. I didn't live in Ruston either, 'cause I lived in the Delta.
Hey, since you're up there (I say "there," because I live in Baton Rouge now) were you at the Hawaii game this week? I know there were a few LSU fans that went for the hell of it and had a good time. The Tech games that come to mind that were as fun as that would be the 2002 OK State game in Shreve, the previous Hawaii game in 2007, and the Miss St game last year. Up until then, the atmosphere was never stellar, even if the product on the field sometimes was. However, it's moving in the right direction, so LOOK OUT LSU!! ;)

I lived in Hutcheson for about a week. Community showers on the same floor as the football team. No thanks.
We recorded an answering message to "Sweet Home Alabama"
Sweet Home, Hutcheson
Where our rooms are poo-poo
If we ain't home, leave a message
And we'll get right back to you.
Good times.
Didn't make the Hawaii game. I actually live in Shreveport. I asked no fewer than 10 people to go to the game, but all declined. I'm going to the Boise game if I have to go by myself.

You were there the same time I was. I think it was Gene Johnson and Sam Hughes @ QB. Sam also was a catcher on the baseball team. That team also had a guy by the name of Roaf on the OL. He turned out to be pretty good.
The last game of the year vs Col. State was great. 17 unanswered in the fourth to win 31 - 30...Good Times...

Not quite. I went to games when I was a kid then. I was there for the Rattay/Edwards days.

I was born and raised on LSU from birth.
But I'll say I saw the light.
It's no fun to support a team you have no connections to.

A common misconception is the idea that Arkansas@ULM was ULM's idea. It was Arkansas's idea so that it could more easily play two games in Little Rock, which is required by the Arkansas state government.
I bet it was ULM's idea to make it a home game for ulm though
get more than 10k in your stadium!

Because ULM has not/would not support the game, therefore making it unattractive financially, considering that both schools need revenue. I would like to see them play regularly. However, ULM talks like they want to play but have not supported the games that were played in the '90's and '00's.

So what happens when DD bolts and you fall back to the mid to low level of the WAC?

Their games with USM and Houston have nothing to do with this. Why didn't they offer USM or Houston a one and done in Ruston? If they did, do you think USM or Houston would have signed that deal? Absolutely not. So why should ULM agree to it? ULM doesn't need it any more than Tech does. But they both would benefit with a renewed rivalry, playing home and homes from here on out. My point is, LSU can sign Tech, ULL, ULM, etc. to one and dones, but Tech is not in the same position. No school equal to them would do this. In their minds they think they are close to the level of LSU and try to treat ULM that way.
No Tech supporter believes Tech is equal to LSU in athletics or support. But ULM did not support the last two series' between ULM and Louisiana Tech. Both schools need revenue and ULM's unwillingness to attend the games at EITHER venue makes it a losing proposition for Tech. During the past few years Tech has proposed a few options to renew the series, including an arrangement where games would be played in Monroe. ULM turned them down.

Holy crap...where did this novel come from?
Here's the plain truth:
Tech thinks they're too far above ULM/NLU to play them regularly, being that Tech is in the WAC. Tech likes to pretend that they're in the ranks of the Boises, Fresnos, and the like. Meanwhile, those universities think that Tech is a bum wrap to their conference and wish they could get out.
ULM thinks because they're D 1 (good job Lawson Swearingen) that they deserve to play Tech. ULM knows that they have made Tech eat dirt in the past and they're dying to do it again. A win over Tech would boost their program and earn back many of its alumni who could really give a shite.
All in all, they should be in the same conference and Tech needs to get over themselves. Both are never going to a BCS bowl.

does ole miss @ tech in jackson work better??
I guarantee you that the Tech admin would jump at this if it was offered. It makes good sense to me. When the ULM vs Ark in Little Rock deal was announced I'm sure the Tech AD/Admin were like, "Man, that is a good idea, our attendance sucks too. I wish we would have thought about that first. But we can't do it now, it would look like we were copying ULM. WE ARE TECH, we have to keep our pseudoelite status."
I am very sure that Tech has never considered any such arrangement as the "ULM vs Ark in Little Rock deal". It is absolutely ridiculous for you to suggest. As is it is absolutely ridiculous for ULM to ever have entered such an arrangement. It is an embarrassing deal to begin with and something Hanks never should have done. Just go to 1AA or Div II or your original mission as a junior college or close the university altogether now that Delta CC is in place.
