No actually it's not considered out dated.

quote:

All NFL teams have their own stopwatches -- thus, their own times -- while the National Football Scouting Service provides hand-held stopwatch numbers from two scouts as well as an electronic time for each player. The electronic time is not a true electronic time; a person manually starts the timer. League sources also have said the times labeled by NFL Network as "official" actually come from a scout seated in the stands in direct view of the finish line.

says all NFL teams have their own times. Also in that article it says hundreds of NFL team personnel is there with stopwatches.

So every team is getting their own times from multiple watches. And like I said, SOME teams ignore the combines official time completely and use their own

Technically no...But some tracks and surfaces they run on can be a faster track, opposed to the combine or other schools.

USC's track is notoriously slow.

Naw. It's not Ohio State, which is known for being lightning, but basically everywhere is faster than the combine.

Basically all of USC's guys ran at the combine last year, even guys like Rey, who had speed questions and Ellison who had been injured. I don't see why most wont again this year

I see what you are saying but I would think if they bother clocking them they might use the times.

I was watching the combine on NFL network last year and one of the analysts said that they use many factors when talkin about the infamous 40 time.

Said some teams ignore the official times. Said some teams use a median off all their times, some take the 6 times they get from the National Scouting service (that's the 2 official hand held, the 1 partial electronic times 2 because they get to run twice) and then they drop the fastest, and the slowest and average the 4 comparing that with what their own scouts had, and all whole bunch of other methods mixed and matched in there.

In any case, it is my opinion that the National Scouiting people know what they are doing, and the partial electronic is probably the truest time. But ultimately they are a third party company, not affiliated with the NFL or any of it's teams, so of course some of the old school NFL gm's and coaches think nobody knows their business as well as themselves, so I'm sure you get some resistance

His athleticism is superb and his hits are second to none for a D-back. He focuses too much on hits and needs coverage work, which the NFL scouts will be fine with. With that being said, this is perhaps my favorite TM play. There are just too many great hits to choose for second. Gotta love the one hand take down too. Jahvid Best is 4.42 in the 40 (fastest 4.32, slowest 4.52)

Haven't seen anything to say otherwise. He plays a lot like Bing used to!

Yeah, but out of "everywhere", Cromwell is still slow.

They say TM is soo great in his pass defense..PC deep cover 1/3 scheme lines him 17-20 off the ball for most of the snap..his alignment ALONE negates the deep ball.

He has throughly disappointed me this season.

Bingo...Mays cant cover and cant locate the ball in the air, bad ball skills.

Taylor Mays

Is a PERFECT example of why guys like SFP put wayyyy too much stock in combine results.

The speed and athleticism is fine and I'm sure he'll start in the NFL for multiple years, and maybe even get things going and be really good, but you have to be able to do a whole lot more than just run really fast and jump really high.

Taylor Mayes is Roy Williams revisited.

Great hitter, great vs. the run, liability in coverage.

Eric Berry had that his Freshmen year. Hell, Kurt Coleman had 5 INT's just this season.

We heard for a couple years that Harvin was supposed to run a 4.1. Only to see him run a solid 4.4 at the combine. Most of these 40 times are myths.

agreed that most are myths. There was a couple page thread early in the year on mays "4.2 speed". At the time there were quite a few people defending him. They said he ran like a 4.22 or something. I'm sorry but Taylor mays isn't one of the 5 fastest guys to come out of college football in the past 4 years.
But I don't remember anybody saying Harvin was supposed to be the fastest player ever recorded at the combine. That's what a 4.1 would be.
