I guarantee you if he said whatever it was he said to the media instead after the game in the same manner it would be a bigger story and not nearly as effective. There is a part of this that’s meant to spark your team as well, not just get a point across to a player.
If you don’t understand the difference between yelling at a player on a sideline and talking in specifics about him to the media I don’t know what to tell you. I think there is a major difference

Yeah I agree he could have handled it even worse then he did but that doesn't make they way he did react good.

95% of the discussion was people complaining about the negative reaction to Izzo screaming at him.
Stephen A ranted about how silly it was that this was even being discussed. He said something about grown men needing to toughen up in this country

Only time I have an issue is when college coaches rip players in the media, which obviously doesn’t apply here.
This was AFTER the public arse chewing and pointing in his face:
quote:
“You know, there were some things where Aaron [Henry] didn’t do a very good job,” Izzo said. “Like what happened, I did get after him. And he did respond. And he did make a couple big buckets. He did make a couple big free throws, but that’s not good enough. This is one-and-done time. The ‘my bads’ are out the window. If they’re ‘my bads’ because the other team played better or that guy played better. If it’s ‘my bad’ because I decided to jog back instead of sprint back, then it is your bad and you’re going to hear about it.”

The fact this was even a discussion is embarrassing. frick this country some days.

I listen to sports talk radio and watch TV. The majority of takes I saw/heard were supportive of Izzo.
The backlash was given way, way too much credit.

Thanks for posting. I didn’t know that he had continued to go at the player in the media after the game. Bothers me much more than the interaction on the court.

Good lord. People are still whining about this? Michigan State was struggling, Aaron Henry was loafing on defense, and Izzo got pissed. I got arse chewings like that in middle school and high school and I wasn't scarred for life. I just made sure to not let it happen again.

Guess you didn't bother reading the thread before you posted. Said multiple times in here I don't care about coaches getting after players unless it's the media.

I don't think that's getting after the player in the media as much as it is Izzo explaining his rationale for getting after any player in a situation like the NCAA Tournament.
