The NCAA has suspended its policy against holding championships in states where there is sports wagering. So I’m looking forward to that NCAA Tournament West Regional in Las Vegas.

I wonder what the NCAA's % cut on the vig is for dropping that policy.

Checks a big box off the anti-betting argument for Louisiana .

All these leagues think they'll get in on this action, but I simply don't see it. What leverage do they have?

I heard a pretty good interview with Chris Christie the other day and he said some guy in his state that will be handling this told the leagues "we're going to give you what Nevada does. Zero."
The leagues may as well take the money from places like bet365.

On Mad Dog? That was a pretty good spot.

That was the one. I know a lot of people hate Christie, but we owe him a debt of gratitude for fighting this battle in the face of like six court losses and people telling him it was a fool's errand.

It's happened in other countries, and it's already happening in West Virginia. They call it the "integrity" fee or tax.
quote:
West Virginia’s Gov. Jim Justice says state casinos will be responsible for paying sports betting “integrity fees” if a new law comes to fruition.
Justice says in a news release that representatives of the state lottery, professional sports leagues and casinos reached a tentative agreement on the fees. The statement didn’t provide details of the agreement.
The NBA and Major League Baseball have been asking states to give them 1 percent of the total amount wagered on their games.

Your thread title sucks
Probably why I misread it at first
I initially thought that the NCAA was going to start a policy of not allowing championships in states where betting is legal. In my defense, that would be a very NCAA thing to do.

What incentive is there for the states to do this? Obviously the leagues aren't going to stop playing games if they don't. Do the leagues somehow have the power to not allow the casinos to take bets on their games?

Does this make the NCAA look stupid af to anyone else?
They're so fricking rigid with their rules when they want to frick over some kid. But look at em now.
"We will NOT hold championships in states with this devil gambling.
Wait.
So every state will do the devil gambling?
Oh, yeah, we're super cool with that stuff now."
foh NCAA

I'm guessing it's basically an extortion fee so they don't face some BS lawsuits about profiting off of the leagues' product.

Yes. And of course, where there's lobbying, there's politicians getting "perks" from lobbyists.

That is exactly what I thought... A better thread title would be "NCAA lifts ban regarding hosting championships where sports betting is legal," or "NCAA to allow championships in states where sports betting legalized!"
