I wonder how much the league pricing regular fans out has hurt them too.

Michael Jordan got the highest ratings in NBA history when he was chasing its sixth championship in a span of eight years while Tom Brady got the lowest SB ratings in 16 years. Who's the real GOAT?

And I bet this SB crushed those NBA ratings.

This is an issue in colleges also. I have absolutely ZERO doubt that college football attendance will suffer once things are back to "normal" again. I personally know quite a few people who discovered this past year how enjoyable the LSU game can be at home in the AC with a 72 inch TV screen and pisser/refrigerator/food at your disposal. And no shitty music or ad nauseam sponsor propaganda being screamed at you over the PA.

For the last twenty years it seems like when there is a decision to be made, the NFL makes the wrong choice every single time.

Why would I care if they lost a shite ton of money?

Doesn't matter to me. I watched the game. Still obvious they are completely inept with only caring about 13% of the population.

If they folded tomorrow or got donations for 90 billion dollars for woke love it doesn't bother me either way

More commenting on the widespread comments here about the erosion of joy in sports, the politics, etc. The Jenner moment was a milestone in all of this in my mind. At that moment ESPN declared they were all in.

Yep. It had been coming up to that point, but that's when the "Worldwide leader" jumped the shark. Been total shite SJW pandering ever since.

The NFL has drastically FAILED by way of attracting the youth generation of viewers over the last 15 years.

The decision to simulcast on Nickelodeon was easily the best idea in sports broadcasting history for the last 30 years or more. The decision to then NOT simulcast SB LV on Nickelodeon was then the most boneheaded decision over the same time period.

They have to work out this youth broadcast along with simulating on social media + streaming services all at the same time. If they don't make their product as interactive & reachable as possible-then the trending decline will only speed up.

The only trending decline coincides with the years of sky screaming and extreme election influence.

The ratings were stable if not going up in the mid to late 10s.

For some reason people still don't get it.

Younger people are more interested in Marvel comics and Big Bang Theory than they are sports.

The younger demographics aren’t watching some shitty, generic cable TV show

But I do agree with your overall point. Though it’s more eGames (video games) that has exploded. There are plenty of tournaments and leagues for them for tons of different games. Some people make lots of money off of them. Unlike sports, you don’t have to have certain physical attributes. It’s available to a lot more people as well.

But yeah, let’s blame it on refs

Horrible PI call on a 3rd down play is absolutely on the refs. Drive is done at that point and is a FG try. PI in the endzone a few plays later while not as bad is still a bad call IMO and led to the TD instead of the FG.

Clock management allowed the opportunity to exist, sure. But the Chiefs should have only allowed 3 there with competent officiating on either play.

As I said though, it's irrelevant because the chiefs couldn't doo poo on offense. All the noise about the refs helping Brady win is just noise IMO. Tampa wins that game regardless.

Ok so a 17-6 lead is as good as a 21-6 lead?????? But that’s not the point about the refs..... they let Tampa get away with the same kind of calls they were calling on KC...... I saw at least 5 plays where they could have called defensive holding or PI on Tampa but they didn’t.... all I was looking for was the refs being consistent.... that did not happen....... BUT I agree Tampa would have won anyway... they just played better.

I can pinpoint the exact 2 moments in Fall/Winter of 2011 that turned me 100% against sports media and the sport themselves that they are entwined with/propogandize for:

1. November 2011: Jerry Sandusky scandal breaks and ESPN runs coverage of child rape 24/7 on their networks for weeks on end. At no point was coverage of this from a "sports perspective" necessary or welcome. My company kept it on at work all day and having to see pieces of shite go on and defend Joe Pa's legacy and shite and hear about those poor kids really put me in a bad place for a long time.

2. November-January 2011: Tebowmania in Denver. A story no one on the planet was allowed to enjoy. Naked media creation of building up Tebow only to tear him down. Merrill Hodge granted free license to say whatever horrible things about Tim he wanted with no repercussion every single day. His OT TD pass against Pittsburgh should have been one of the highlights of the decade by any reasonable measure, but millions of football fans were brainwashed to vomit out "I don't mind him but hate the story" "it'll never last" and most famously "fake Christian!"

I can’t say for sure, but I believe the Tebow stuff was when I really began to notice ESPN focusing more on what the frick Tebow was doing on the sideline than what was happening on the field.

It was just odd to me, and then began noticing more and more political BS injected over the next year or so to where I stopped watching espn altogether.

Never understood how tebow was blackballed after taking Denver to the playoffs and fricking winning the 1st game - all the focus was on him kneeling and what a negative impact it had on the game, ironically.

Why would someone illegally stream a game on network TV?

You don’t even have to illegally steam

CBS was streaming the game for free on their website
