This doesn't make sense. Are you arguing it wasn't a penalty or you don't like the rules? It was clearly a penalty under the current rules

Don't act as if the NFL hasn't been treating their "stars" with kid gloves ever since Tom Brady started crying every time he got hit.

Tough loss for the Panthers tonight, but at least Cam Newton won't have any memory of it.

I'm sure we'll rebound from this ref-assist game and still win the NFC South for a billionth time.

AYFKM? The refs did everything they could to help Carolina, but douchebag justice prevailed in the end.

Its just dumb. Even if he's right he wasted a top 4 team in the NFL for a risky pick

What does that have to do with tonight? That hasn't been a legal hit for several years now.

There's no doubt the rule is fantastically retarded. It sets a standard that an official could call a roughing penalty on nearly every hit.

quote:

Defensive players are not allowed to make more than mild contact with the quarterback once he has released a pass, or any contact with the head of a quarterback whether or not the quarterback is in possession of the ball. A roughing the passer penalty results in a fifteen-yard penalty and an automatic first down.

Defending champs have now won 15 of last 17 in Week 1

That is somewhat debateable, but it was called right on that last drive.

There's more Auburn fans bitching in this thread than actual Panther fans. Typical

Dude.

#26 left the ground with both feet & like a projectile hit another player with the crown of his helmet in the head.

The rule is to protect the defender as much as the offensive player.

In most instances it's the defender who doesn't get up after those hits.

Ask Eric Legrand, family of Chucky Mullins, Marc Buoniconti & I can look up several other defenders dead or paralyzed tackling head first.

Good rule & the guy deserves & shall get fined/ training/ warning about launching himself.

if I were commissioner he would be playing in Canada next week.

that is the only training/warning you need. You can't play in our league.

I did not get to watch the game but I watched some highlights. I do not see how they did not throw a flag on a couple of those hits on Cam.

I saw two that the player launched himself at Cam's head and no call.

I am not a Cam fan but those were some brutal hits.

Let me guess, not Cam's fault.

And then-
"You act like it's his fault"

What?

Last night was Cam's fault in the way that it's always a QB's fault when his team loses.

But it's not like Cam did anything notable to lose the game, he was more than adequate. Kicker missed a FG for the win, FFS.

They missed three clear helmet hits on Cam. Thats pretty egregious for todays NFL. I have seen Drew get a roughing call when a defenders finger tips gently touched his helmet after trying to deflect a pass
