You have never been to Busch for a Cardinals game ever. That much is very clear.

2011, 2008, 2007, etc-- but non-Cardinals fans do. Both because we enjoy seeing the Cardinals fail, but also knowing that the only consolation we'll get from the talking heads that crow incessantly about Cardinal baseball, is listening to them sob about it. p

Are you saying 2011 was a failure? Bc if winning the world series is a failure I have been terribly misinformed

ETA: actually now that I've read all these guy's post I see that:
1) he edited so I retract my previous statement
2)holy shite at the combination of butthurt/jealousy/and flat out imagining things. He acts as if every thread on the MSB gets hijacked by Cardinals fans and that's just simply not true. In fact, I don't ever recall it happening in a thread that wasn't about baseball

Resurrecting this thread because this was recently written by Fungoes regarding the WSJ's ranking of the Cardinals as the most Hateable Team in the Playoffs this year:
Fungoes Retort to WSJ Article

Here's the WSJ Article.

One of the rationales given by WSJ for hateability:
quote:

The Cardinals prevailed in large part because of one of the primary measures of repulsiveness: recent success. Teams received points for league titles won in the past 10 years, and the Cardinals, a constant presence this time of year, have four.

The others include a Cardinals specific category of "Are fans routinely labeled as the best in baseball?" and "Do fans invade other teams' ballparks?"

Silly article, but fun to laugh at.

Also of note, I thought, was that the Cardinals are tied for 6th with Orioles with respect to payroll.

But they could be us. It's simply a choice between being a fan of a losing organization or a winning organization like the Cards.

As usual, a Cardinal fan that can barely read.

It isn't about the MSB; it is about why people hate the Cardinals-- and that goes far beyond the MSB. It goes to the national, regional, and even local sports media, to the conduct of fans, and more.

Great example: about three weeks ago, former Razorback women's golfer Stacy Lewis was playing in the Yokahama LPGA event- a Razorback-oriented station did a nice little interview with her for the morning talk show-- and they asked her two questions about the Cardinals, without her bringing them up first. I'd even give them a pass if she had brought it up, or had said 'Well, I want to do as well as the Cardinals' --- it is exactly that kind of stupid bullshite that poisons people's attitudes towards St. Louis. They can't even talk about something as far remove from baseball as women's golf, without injecting the Cardinals.

Cardinal fans are a plague on sports.

So because a couple announcers for a Razorback-oriented station mentioned the Cardinals during their interview, Cardinals fans are terrible.

Bud, you're just making all kinds of sense.

No, not 'just'; how damned dense are you Cardinals folks?

This is an illustrative example-- not an exhaustive one. It is repeated, year in and year out, at every level of media, at every level of social interaction with Cardinals fans, and with sometimes greater or lesser degrees of severity.

It is a symptom of the disease, not the disease itself.

OK, fine. Let's take it out of the anecdotal and apply the example to the whole: because the Cardinals are discussed a lot by the media, their fans are terrible.

I get it now.

If you believe that is the criticism, you very obviously do not get it.

Teams that win a lot are going to be talked about a great deal; they will even get coverage in the off-seasons for their respective sports. That is normal. It happened for the Giants, it happened for the Red Sox (though to a more Cardinal-like degree), it happens every year. What does not happen, is the Cardinal-level of interjection, regardless of success. I'd even buy the argument that it isn't as bad when the Cardinals win the WS-- at least then, only the championship moment is compared to the Cardinals-- in years where they come up just short, or lose in the playoffs, everyone who loses gets a Cardinal reference somewhere-- ESPN, Twitter, sports radio, newspapers, etc.

Cardinals fans say 'No way, man! Doesn't happen!'; the positive feelings they get from additional coverage blind them to the negative effect it has to outsider's opinions of their franchise.

Plenty of Cardinals fans roll their eyes at the phrase 'the Patriot Way', but gobble up the same drek when it is wrapped in Cardinal Red.

That's what people hate.

Only in the minds of Cardinals fans. You don't get it because you are inside the bubble.

If you are a Cardinal fan, you are inside the bubble; location doesn't matter-- disposition does.

As usual, Cardinal fans deflect, deflect, deny, and disengage. It isn't unique to them, when it comes to criticism of their teams-- plenty of hardcore fan groups do the same thing. The difference is that they don't shite over the rest of the sports world like a goose with avian flu.

I mean, this is getting hilarious. You've lost. Every point you've made has been rebutted again and again. The delusional one is you, my friend. In fact, you are so delusional that you at one point claimed to not even care about the Cardinals because they have so little effect on your team (the Twins), but continue to try to illustrate just how bad the Cardinals fanbase and team are while, at every turn, your proclamations are thwarted by reason.

It's as if you must be right or else your delusion of legitimate hatred will fail and you will have to come to grips with the fact that you are, without doubt, the most insanely butthurt individual on this Board. For frick's sake, you're a Twins fan. Why in the shite are you even in this thread?

Oh, so much fodder here. I'll go point by point.

This is exactly the tone-deafness level of Cardinals fans. You cannot, by definition, rebut the reasoning of why people dislike the Cardinals-- it is just that-- their reasoning, to illustrate, illuminate, or expound upon.

Again, reading is too hard for Cardinals fans.

I said I have every reason not to care; Cardinals fans make it impossible, like a giant turd someone puts in the middle of a common area. You can't really not notice it.

Nothing has been 'thwarted'; Cardinals fans have tried to pin the idea of my dislike to jealousy, to making arguments that a part represents the whole of the dislike, etc. These tactics are crushed regularly by Cardinals fans when people say 'Patriot Way', or the Cowboys fan says 'Well, 5 Rings!', no matter how much the rest of the world is fed their unjustified garbage attention.

Actually, it is just the opposite; Cardinal fans are tripping over themselves, in a thread for people who hate the Cardinals to explain why they hate the Cardinals; you have to be in here, to write off why people don't like your team-- that's an amazing level of insecurity.

You want to know why I'm in this thread? Because the rest of the sporting world has to deal with people like you. I wish to God you people could be like Giants fans, or Dodgers fans, or might even start the road towards recovery and come back to maybe a Red Sox level of awfulness as a first step in not being the worst collection of sports fans out there, to the outside world.

Give being only a minor douchebag a chance, Cardinals fans. The rest of us would appreciate the marked improvement.
