There is no way there will be a third MLB or NFL team in Columbus.

The only thing would be relocation, and the only team that would possibly do that would be the Cavs imo.

Agreed

South Carolina is a possibility if Charlotte picks up a baseball team and the stadium is built in the Fort Mill suburb. Same with Virginia if a replacement stadium for any existing team is built in the DC suburbs.

Hell, they put the Jets back in comparatively tiny Winnipeg, why not Billings?

I think Hartford has a better chance of getting an NHL team to come back than that.

So Cali has 11 and NY has 10.

Almost half the states in the US don't have ONE and California has 11

Cali has 15 right?

Virginia

Virginia is most glaring, but it's in a funny spot because there is no dominating city. It would be overkill to put a new team in NOVA but Richmond and Norfolk are unlikely to succeed. Didn't Richmond have and NBA team at one point? Hell, they don't even have a AAA team anymore. Those three big areas are also very independent of each other.

IMO, the next untapped market is Omaha/Council Bluffs/Lincoln. That or Vegas, if a league decides to sack up and put a team in Vegas.

Yep. Winnipeg got the Jets back, Quebec will get the Nordiques back as soon as Glendale gets tired of subsidizing the Coyotes with tax dollars...that leaves Hartford for the Panthers.

Vegas has an outside shot at an NBA team, if the Maloofs end up going there instead of Anaheim. The NBA supposedly has the most teams in trouble. Problem for Vegas is it's taking a beating with the economy and the money might not be there for an arena.

I don't see MLB expanding or relocating anytime soon. The NFL is well set at 32 teams and going past that would be unwieldy. Los Angeles will get a team if there's a relocation.

The NHL and NBA aren't going to expand because of finances, but as I mentioned we could see Hartford Whalers Part II. For both those leagues, Hartford or Virginia or Louisville or Vegas will still have to be more attractive than the new Sprint Center in KC.

in theory hartford could host another NHL team - they (the Whalers) were well supported by hockey standards

but the financial issues probably remain - they never really had good facilities there and I don't think a smallish city in a depressed NE economy is going to pony up for a nice new arena
