I like that NBC brought in Joe Micholetti for the game. Brought back some great memories. Capitals and Penguins can have Pierre McGuire.

Really dumb penalty by Backstrom

Only so much Holtby can do there. Terrible PK by the Caps

Nice pressure, I could watch the Pens forecheck for days.

Been trying to read about 2-1-2 and 1-2-2 forechecking. shite has me all confused.

Listening to him and Ken Wilson call games together on radio (before all games were on TV) were the golden years to me.
I am probably in the minority, but I like the blue Capitals uniforms from their last Stanley Cup Finals better than the crappy ones their wear now. Also like the Penguis jerseys from the '90s better than the current ones.

2-1-2 is a more offensive/open meant to put pressure on the opponents defense by putting two forwards in support of the puck at any one time in the offensive zone while the third cycles in the high slot ready to break back in support of transition into the neutral zone and or support the other forwards in the attacking zone.
1-2-2 is more of a classical forecheck were one forward pressures the puck while the 2nd supports higher on the strong side while the third backs towards the blue line/neutral zone.
1-3-1 is the classical trap made famous by the Devils in the oughts.

No problem. Hockey is an awesome sport.

this pens team is getting abused in the hit department...caps owning them this game and making their shots count

Brutal. Pens don't look like they want to end it tonight, pretty lackluster out there.

If run right the 1-3-1 is a thing of beauty. The Lightning ran it a few years ago and countered off it amazingly well. New Jersey didn't try to break as much they were plodding and not as skilled offensively

NBC just showed an unusual 6:00 start on Monday night. Guess that means Predators/Sharks at 8:30?
