Given your broad travel experience and deep understanding of Europe’s history and current culture, perhaps you could help explain to the TigerDroppings crowd why you believe Europe’s culture is thriving today?

The inability for this board / forum to be able to seperate things is incredible.

Do you think what they did is right? Because the comments in this thread seem to be defending them because of other issues.

What do you think the outcome would be if this happened in America? Given someone was jailed for poisoning a few trees...Alongside plenty of monkey chants and actions towards him? The abuse Vini gets is totally ridiculous and like nothing America sports has experienced in 30+ years for sure.

I'll pretend you didn't mean that towards me.

nope. and never said as such.

it's several steps too far. so are the monkey chants.

there is a line of taunting / jeering an opponent. this crossed it.

this is not the equal parallel you intend it to be.

Ohh, I agree. Doesn't mean the media and players don't play the victim at any opportunity.

see the imaginary slur Angel Reese heard after her scuffle with Caitlyn Clark a few weeks back.
see Bubba Watson's noose.
see Lebron's imaginary racist tagging on his front gate. None verified, but the media and social media ran with it as fact.

^and that's just 3 off the top of my head in the world of American sports. (there's plenty of other feaux hate crimes I can list)

Fact is, there is a lot more demand for racism in American than there is supply. Anyone who's actually traveled internationally would know it's not really even close.

My post wasn’t defending those actions; it was taking aim at another blowhard from NOLA who pretends he’s well-travelled enough to explain Europe’s cultural decline resulting in the locals’ consequent pent-up anger.

So if they had used a white doll for the effigy would it have been ok?

If they put a Modric jersey on a white doll and hung it they probably would have had some serious issues as well. The combo of a black doll plus a jersey of a black player was clearly the difference between "free speech" and a threat.

I mean, have you read this board? There are several comments on this thread asking what would happen if it was a white doll. It wasn’t, so what are you even talking about? That try to make anything like this sound like it’s not that bad.
