You think it was more advantageous to schedule tough OOC games before?
Yes. You’re confusing the incentive to schedule a big nonconference game with the consequences of losing one. Under the old system, a marquee OOC win could be the difference between playing for a national championship and being left out. Strength of schedule mattered enormously when you were comparing teams with similar records for two or four spots.
Look at 2016 Ohio State. They went to Oklahoma and won, didn’t even win their own division, and still made the four-team playoff over Big Ten champ Penn State, which had beaten them head-to-head. That nonconference victory was a major factor in their selection. Look at 2023 Texas. Their win in Tuscaloosa gave them a signature résumé advantage that helped secure a playoff spot.
Now with 12 teams, the incentive is increasingly to minimize risk. Expand that to 24 teams and the incentive becomes even weaker. Why would Ohio State risk losing at Oklahoma or Texas risk losing at Alabama when both could likely make a 24-team playoff playing a much weaker schedule?
The 24 would make even more necessary to schedule weaker opponents in order to minimize the risk of injuries and develop backups for the long season.

and easier, not the other way around, contrary to what people thought
All it’s doing for teams like LSU is replacing a decent non-conference game with another conference game. Which removes rare matchups. Now for teams in the Big-10, they can keep their normal non-conference schedule.

The most stupid thing they can do.. what exactly are they trying to prove with this move?? Aside from the money angle..

I assure you the guys that ruin their brains and bodies for your enjoyment would rather win a playoff game and get a shot to play a top 8 team in the playoffs than go to Orlando for a week in December.
I’m not sure that’s true. Especially ones that are draft eligible

This is the dumbest thing ever.

Dude FCS has 24 teams, personally I would have chosen 16 teams but acting like 24 is some death knell is so overdramatic
I follow FCS ball. For the most part, the entire first 2 rounds of playoff games consist of blowouts.

I can't wait for the arguments for when a 7-5 Clemson team thinks they are more deserving rather than the 9-3 ULL team that gets in.

They are professional athletes. Lost in all this players input and their compensation
Naturally ESPN doesn’t care and the presidents can’t say the players will get X per game because that would legitimately professional
So as it is now, they are asking players to pay more games for the same salary.
Players on the bottom the playoff will opt out unless people pony up and boosters aren’t going to pony up for a disappointing 21 seed. It won’t be widespread like it is now, but it will happen
