I just think a committee would slide a 12-0 UCF in if the playoffs were expanded to 6 teams.
I don't see how they get in over the current top 4, Ohio State, and Wisconin/Auburn/USC fighting for that last spot.
Maybe the committee throws them a bone if they expand to 8, but more than likely they are still on the outside unless there is a special Group of 5 rule in place.

They could have scheduled tougher opponents.
The problem is that this is done years in advance.
They can't just call up 4 winning power 5 schools and put them on next year's schedule just to prove a point.

This may be the strongest reason to go to 8. Let these guys be a part of it.
Either do that or separate them to another level.

They never get in because they don't pay enough money like the big boys.
Also, they aren't one of the four best teams.

Funny part is that if Bama had played UCF this year and won by 3-7 the committee would talk about how Bama had that great OOC win over a 11 win UCF

And the committee is here to make sure we can never actually find that out

What an absurd statement but it's true of college football. Everyone thinks they know the best teams based on their eyes and resumes and other crap

How dare we want to play the game on the field and not paper.

8 team playoff gives the UCFs a fighting chance.
Not if they still use a committee. An 8-4 Alabama would take their spot

and their best win being over a 6-6 UCLA team.
True
Question though, what if these AAC teams start regularly beating these P5 mid tier teams? Do we then start to entertain the idea of giving them a seat at the table?

Why don't we just have every team in college football play every other team in college football so that we can find out who the best team really is? That is the only way that we are 100% sure we have the best teams playing in the playoff and the only way to avoid playing the game on the field and not paper.

You can't see the difference between wanting an undefeated team to get a shot vs the ridiculousness you just posted?

My math may be a little fuzzy but close enough.

You are the one who is advocating for playing the game on the field not on paper!
In its entirety, my first post said "[a]lso, they aren't one of the four best teams in college football." You called that an absurd statement.
They barely hung on against SMU, scored a touchdown to win with 1:28 on the clock against USF, and beat Memphis in three overtimes. I'm just some random, known nothing message board poster, but I personally do not think that they are one of the four best teams in college football. And I don't think that is an absurd statement.

If they are looking for "the 4 best teams" then a 2OT win over Memphis giving up 55 pts is not the way to do it.
You mean 10-2 Memphis that is ranked 3 spots behind LSU?

OU lost at home to a 31 point dog. Barely beat K state. Almost blew it against texas. Barely beat a Baylor team whose only win was fellow 1-11 team Kansas. We can play this game with everyone. It's all pointless subjective conjecture.
It is because college football does not have a way of objective way determining who the best team is. Having polls or formulas or committees selecting the 2-4 teams that have a claim as best is absurd and subjective as frick.
It's all about resumes and eye tests instead of putting a reasonable amount of teams on the field and playing it out.

And it keeps what is often an unworthy Group of 5 team out of the New Years 6 bowls.
G5 teams are 2-1 in NY6 games and non BCS conferences had a great record in BCS games.

Shorten the season a couple of games to fit this in, and then play all of the games up until the semis as home games for the higher ranked team and I'm all about this

And beat Ohio State, Oklahoma State, and TCU twice, all of which are better wins than any that UCF had.

You're absolutely right.

Again, you're right (you're really on a roll here!).
Unfortunately (I guess), this is the system we have in place right now and it is based on resumes and eye tests in trying to find the best four teams to get in to this playoff. Based on UCF's resume and the eye test according to my very imperfect eyes, UCF is not one of the best four teams in college football.
