So the league screwed up and then changed the penalty for first time domestic violence to 6 games.

What exactly in the elevator video would place it outside the realm of the new 6 game mandate?

If Rice is suspended a day longer than 6 weeks, it seems like he would have a slam dunk legal claim. Heck, it seems like he already has one for the league changing his original suspension.

The NFL is so f'd up it's absurd. Goodell is just a joke.

to be fair, when there's a video of an incident, it makes it that much worse for the NFL so maybe the punishment should be worse when you have the stupidity to get the shite on video for the world to tarnish the shield.

I'm guessing the League will hide behind "misleading an investigation."

Yes it does. If a team employs him...

The NFLPA has to appeal this decision.

Great question.

The ONLY thing I can think is that Rice either lied or grossly underplayed what happened in the elevator to the NFL (assuming he had face-to-face meetings with Goodell or other NFL officials). Similar to how Vick fricked himself when he lied to Goodell about his involvement in the dog fighting stuff. I'm not sure how involved Goodell was in Rice's investigation like he was Vick's.

Not saying it's right, just saying there is a precedent here for when people lie to Goodell.

There is no new mandate. The punishment is still up to the leagues discretion.

It isnt vague. Its the policy. Goodell just said from now on this is what I will be giving out.

well since this is Goodell we are talking about here I imagine the thought process went something like

"OK there's one punch. That's 6 games. Ahh.. he hits her again? Well, that's a full season for multiple transgressions. This will show everyone we are serious about violence against women! Time for lunch!"

This is what I don't get. I didn't need a video to explain how his fiancée got KO'd. Unless he argued she attacked him, the video wasn't shocking at all.

If he had pulled off some Chung Li street fighter jumping twist kick, then I would have been surprised.

Agreed, but the public reacted strongly and Roger was already in hot water for only suspending him for 2 games. So he had one of his patented knee-jerk reactions.
