If the greens are what people are complaining about, then I think they're wrong. The greens were rolling very well this week. I've always thought the greens looked bad on TV. I just think it's the type of bermuda they have that doesn't show very well on TV.

I agree. The public is dumb though. To them, color determines quality. Not the actual ball roll or putting on them.

ETA: Just looked it up. It seems as those TPC LA has 'MiniVerde' bermudagrass greens. TPC Sawgrass, East Lake, and Redstone (Shell Houston Open) all have the same cultivar. I would be interested to see how they show up on TV.

I'll be working with MiniVerde this summer.

Well, by tour standards, I am sure any course in Louisiana would not rank so well.

Squire Creek would but it is in Choudrant, LA. Put that course and facilities in New Orleans and you have a premier tour stop.

Sad that this is even worse than TPC San Antonio.

An absolute joke that it is part of the FedEx Cup.

Squire Creek

I will be interested in seeing what the usga thinks about Squire Creek after they host a championship there in 2015. Hopefully it will be in line to host more in the future.

Ruston can be cool if you are a student there....because of that and the limited media market, there will be no significant events there.

Hell, there are no full service hotels in a 70 mile radius of the course.

The course is legit....it is just in the middle of nowhere.

I work with MiniVerde now and I hate it. It craps the bed in the winter like no other ultradwarf bermuda. TPC LA looks poor on tv because it's just came out of winter. That course in the middle of summer with consistently warm days and nights would look 10x better.

Word. I'm in graduate school for turf grass now.

Are you in VA still? (Judging by username).

No I'm in Texas until friday then I head to Atlanta to start a new job. Are you interning this summer or taking an assistants position?

I figured you were somewhere down south with bermuda.

I will be conducting my thesis research this summer. Quantifying light requirements to successfully establish bermudagrass putting greens. This was my first semester. I will repeat my experiment next summer and then I will graduate in December of 2014. After that, I think I will look for an asst. position or possibly do a summer internship since I didn't do undergrad in turf, I'm a bit behind on experience and knowledge that comes from working on a course.

Atlanta is an area I would love to be after school though. Tons of friends there and close to home (Chattanooga).

Honors course is changing their grass to Bermuda this summer, you should try and get an Internship there.

Damn. I totally would if I wasn't doing my research. I volunteered for the First Tee of Chattanooga when they were first building their facility (doubles as UTC Practice Facility) and that's when I first thought about pursuing a career as a superintendent. David Stone (Honors super) helped run the place. Though I doubt he remembers me.

I'm hoping when I'm out of school there will be a nice course converting to bermudagrass where my research and experience will be beneficial.

Atlanta is a great place to get into the business. Don't worry about experience while looking for internships. I spent my first two years as an accounting major switched to turf and wound up interning at a top 100 golf club. They just want someone with a strong work ethic. My advice to you is to intern at a top 100 club like East Lake, Shoal Creek, Winged Foot, etc. Those places get your resume flaged and get you connected. Having a club like that on my resume got me offers when i started looking for jobs the last few months at places like the Alotian Club and Bethpage. I used to dismiss all that networking stuff they preach in college but man it pays off. It gets you and the door and also helps you know if your making the right decision. Also pony up for a GCSAA membership and use their resume critiquing service thats free. Really helped me land offers

top courses love interns....you know they want to move in the industry and you can pay them low.
