Stupid. 3 years left on his contract that he agreed to. I'm not saying he shouldn't ask for a raise, but he agreed to a contract.

The potential damage he has already done may be catastrophic already. His services could have helped the Hawks win week 1....think if they miss the playoffs by one game. His failure to adhere to his contract is stupid.

Players need to learn responsibility. Play out your damn contracts.

non guaranteed contracts are bullshite for players

It's partially guaranteed. And, how much of it is guaranteed is based on the status of the player. It's a GREAT thing for the NFL and its fans that the contracts aren't guaranteed.

And, for the players as a whole, it doesn't hurt them at all. Any money saved by cutting a player who is underperforming ends up getting spent on other players. So, the player pool gets the same amount of money.

In short, it's good for the game when you don't have players who don't produce taking up tons of salary cap space. The ability to make changes to rosters in the NFL is what makes it 100x better than the NBA.

Of course it's good for the league. That's not the point at all

They can't give in and set a precedent.

Of course it is.

Your only argument is a bleeding heart one.

The fact that NFL contracts are only partially guaranteed is known. The players knew it and priced them accordingly. If a player wanted 100% guaranteed contract, it could be negotiated. But, they'd obviously have to be paid at a discount to the contract that they would get otherwise.

Plenty of teams have given in and "set a precedent"

If players want all contacts guaranteed, they will take a pay cut overall.

And NBA, MLB etc. don't have guaranteed contracts built into the CBA.

Right but that's his gamble. He thinks he'll be able to get enough guaranteed money to offset what he's giving up now. No idea if it'll work for him.

I wouldn't say it's irrelevant because it tends to prove the point we're trying to make. What Kam is doing is really an effect or cost of the current nature and structure of NFL contracts

Pretty crazy to gamble and risk giving up 7m a year but that's not an issue I'll ever be confronted with so I guess I just can't empathize with these guys to understand what they are thinking.

If NFL teams didn't cut guys 3 years into a 5 year deal, this wouldn't be an issue.

Get a guaranteed money deal. Doesn't seem that difficult...Players and their attorneys apparently prefer the gamble of money instead of guarantees.

Sorry. Complain about that 6-7 figure salary a little more.

I think that is a completely separate issue. Yes, NG contracts are good for the league and fans, but there are plenty of players that get caught on the wrong side of the S/D curve when the money/contracts are given out.

And when the disparity between your play and money is as large as Kam's is, I can't blame him sitting out instead of taking a beating at a discount rate.

IMO, they are both right. He's severely underpaid, and they can't set precedent by renegotiating with 3 years left. Sucks for Kam. Sucks for Seattle. Great for everybody else.

Only part I can't figure out...sitting out doesn't satisfy a year of his contract. So he's back to square one at the beginning of next year.

I'm not really ever gonna get mad about a player trying to get his. Too many teams completely disregard player contracts all the time.

Contracts aren't guaranteed. He's outperformed his contract and he wants a new one. If he underperformed, the team would cut him without thinking twice. I say get your money.

I'm confused. Is Jordy Nelson not getting paid this year? When has the league ever not honored a contract?
