The problem isn’t the luxury tax or teams going over it, it’s the teams that receive revenue sharing having zero incentive to reinvest that money in the roster

its the different side of the same problem. but yes, there needs to be stricter rules on what the lower 15 market teams can do with their revenue sharing money

They have changed it, and are putting pressure on teams who get luxury cash and still put out shite rosters.

Pirates ruined it for the rest, as they were getting luxury tax money for a long time, and giving it to their upper management for bonuses. Enough teams bitched about it, and they put a stop to it, for the most part.

A local sports guy has always said, if teams are going to retool, force them to at least put out competitive teams. And the luxury tax and competitive balance picks are rewarded by win marks. If you get to 70 and are small market you get full share of tax $ and picks.

60 wins you get it cut, and your CB pick slides.
50 wins 1/2 of a share,etc.

but they can. they have ownerships who absolutely can afford these salaries. and they literally get money from the bigger market franchises to pay those players. but they dont

They can't afford to tie up dead money if he's not producing AND replace him with a top level player. The smaller markets have little room for error.

Trading Cutch sucked from a sentimental perspective but it was the right business decision.

And when it comes down to it, the players chose this system.

They wanted petty bullshite over cutting service time. And this is what they deserve and have.

If Harper got his 400m 10yr deal
..he would command nearly $12 of every ticket sold in STL (near the top of the league in attendance) and nearly $35 of every ticket sold in places like Pitt Oak TB. And thats a commitment for every ticket for the next 10 yrs. Granted team revenue is more than tix sales but..

Yes, but i believe it's one of the lower %, in all of the pro leagues(MLS not included).

But again, the MLBPA agreed to this, even when they had ALL the power. But chose petty shite like better meals before games, after, etc. It was laughable what their last contract demands were, instead of things like this.
