SMU and Colorado could be #3 and #4 seeds in CFP?

SMU is likely to be in ACC title game vs Miami. Colorado likely plays BYU in BIG 12 title game. If both teams win do they become top 4 seeds and therefore get a bye?
Am I understanding this correctly?

At this rate, I think 12-1 Boise would be ranked higher than 11-2 Colorado so Boise would probably be #4
The 4 first round byes are just the 4 highest ranked conference champions

It’s not

The 12 participating teams will be the five conference champions ranked highest by the CFP selection committee, plus the next seven highest-ranked teams.
The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and will receive a first-round bye.
The fifth conference champion will be seeded where it was ranked or at No. 12 if it is outside the top 12 rankings.
Non-conference champions ranked in the top four will be seeded beginning at No. 5. Because of this, the seeding, 1 through 12, could look different than the final rankings.

It would be hilarious to watch the bulk of the board shite all over itself w/rage if SMU and Colorado ended up playing in the title game.

We'll see where the rankings are tonight. Last week CU was 20 and Boise was 12. But Boise beat a shitty Nevada team by 7 at home while CU beat a decent Texas Tech team by 14 on the road. So CU might move closer tonight, and neither team really plays anyone worth a crap the rest of the way. Then CU would have to beat undefeated BYU to get in. I wouldn't be shocked if the committee vaulted CU ahead of Boise if that happened.

CU I can see but would anyone really rage at SMU?

Let’s not get carried away. This is just a dumb hypothetical

Not really. They both have high powered offenses. The playoff will more than likely be won by whoever ends up w/the most favorable match ups. There is no perfect team this year. Everyone has exploitable flaws.

Who saw SMU coming in hot as a possible top 4 seed? I know I didn't.
Are they legit? Lost to BYU and no Clemson or Miami on schedule so hard to say.

Obviously not. That’s like asking if #5 IU is legit, but they are 10 pt dogs vs #2 Ohio St

Wanted to revisit this with the new batch of rankings - Boise drops to 13 and CU jumps to 17. So yeah after seeing this, Colorado would most likely get the bye over Boise provided both win out.
