SIAP

UCF is undefeated and not even talked about by the playoff committee. Is this a mistake?

Not saying they should or should not be going but they should at least be discussed IMO especially with two loss teams being in the mix

Yes. They should be in the Tier Two Mid-Major Playoff. Top four mid-majors play each other for the mini-cup.

They’ll have a decent resume and be undefeated, they’d also be competing in the playoffs without their head coach

It has to be frustrating for them to know preseason that they can go undefeated and manhandle nearly everyone on your schedule and still have absolutely no shot at the CFP.

This is what bothers me.

Well that's one reason why it's stupid to have 120+ teams playing for one trophy.

All because they began the season unranked. If they began at even #25, they would be Top 5 by now

That fact alone demands an expansion to, ideally to me, 16 teams. The bowl system can still be accommodated and STFU about academic costs.

Top 6 conference champions selected and seeded by the BCS computer component.

Top two seeds get byes. First 4 games played at highest seeded teams home stadium. NC played at neutral site.

This would make for a fun and exciting playoff. Uses the most objective metrics. Provides the most access to college football teams. No mulligans for big programs that can’t win their conference.

UCF would make it in this situation and play a team like OU.

And as for “mid majors don’t deserve to be there” argument, mid majors are what make the basketball tournament so great. You are telling me you wouldn’t watch FAU try to topple Wisconsin in the first round of a playoff?

There's a huge difference between a mid major in football and basketball. Easier to compete with a 13 man roster vs an 85 man roster.

It’s not like FCS. G5 schools have 85 scholarships as well. This year UCF has zero shot to get again and I don’t think it’s that unreasonable to say they could knock off a few of the big boys in the playoffs. That offense is unreal.

But college athletics across the board is rigged against the group of five. Anyone who argues that is a power five homer or is just ignorant on the subject. They are rarely given a chance. Hell, the RPI formula in basketball alone is used to hold them down.

All group of five schools want is a chance. That’s it.

No. Their strength of schedule ranks #90. Even Bama played a tough schedule compared to that.

Thats why I don’t see why they can’t expand it to 6 conference champions. It almost guarantees a power five conference champion won’t be left out and provides enough access to give the others a chance.
