WNBA started social distancing years ago. They could play this season and not notice a significant decrease in attendance.

If the NBA could go back in time they probably wouldn't create the WNBA.

They knew they would lose money on it at first but hoped it would grow the game and eventually women's basketball would become a real product.

Now they are stuck throwing away millions of dollars on it every single year and can't pull the plug because the PR hit from doing so would be terrible.

Why would they cancel?

By May 1 it will be OK to have gatherings of 50 people or less.

Nike and ESPN help subsidize the WNBA. The NBA definitely does not view it as a mistake. It’s a shared and symbiotic investment between 3 very powerful organizations and they all view it as paying off in more ways than money.

y’all remember when Kobe said that dumb shite that a WNBA player could play in the NBA then died in a fiery helicopter crash so those are basically his last ever public comments?
i hate this for him. probably just said it to make his daughters feel god.

The WNBA has the most social distance safe crowd of all leagues.
