re: Should Mack Brown be fired following this year?

This isn't even a truly great OU team.
This reminds me of when UCLA beat Texas with one of the worst Pac 10 teams ever.
Texas shouldn't be this bad. It's been a long time since VY and far too few Big 12 titles.

By years you mean past 2 because 3 years ago they were playing in national title game.....

Mack Brown has won 2 conference championships in 13 years. And he had Vince Young in one of those years and a senior Colt McCoy in the other.

McWilliams, Mackovich, and Akers won 3 in 20 before. Texas since Royal retired has been bad. Mack came in and rebuilt the whole thing. It was a train wreck there. They had the Sugar Bowl drama, the paying of players, the former players deserting the program. Mack made Texas relevant. In his time at Texas they've ran into great NU, OU, and a fluke CU team. It's not like one team has dominated the Big XII. OU and Texas have dominated the South though.

based on performance, I'd say he deserves it. Not sure about money and the situation. This game is humiliating. 2 years they were literally average. This year may be in the tank.

Texas has won 860 games all time. I don't want to hear this "they weren't that good before Mack" like Texas before Mack was like Florida before Spurrier or something.

The decade before Spurrier got to UF they were 8-3, , 9-2 generally. They had Pell, Hall, both who got them placed on probation. The Gators worst year was with Gary Darnelle, who was hired because Galen Hall was an idiot and did exactly what Pell did for probation. Matter of fact in 84 UF was 9-0 or something with Bell at QB and Natteil at WR.
Texas was not going to bowls and finishing 5-6 or 4-7. Mackovich went to a bowl, Akers started strong but faded, and McWilliams era was awful.
Most of Texas' championships were won under Royal from late 50's to early 70's.

He beat Ole Miss though. Suck on that, SEC

I'll continue my thoughts that have existed for several several years. Mack is the most overrated coach in America. He continues to do less with more than any other coach in the NCAA

McWilliams and Makovic definitely took Texas backwards in the decade (11 years actually) after Akers and before Mack. They had 4 losing seasons but still managed two 10 win seasons. They were just inconsistent as all hell, and fell from the national elite. A lot better than our lost decade.
But I do agree that Texas isn't in that super elite with Alabama, OU, USC, and even Notre Dame. Texas has 4 titles all time, and only one in my lifetime. They are far more equivalent to LSU than Alabama. Their win total is a bit of a mirage, as the SWC was pretty terrible for most of its history (though it was awesome in the 80s).

I think what Mack Brown has done at Texas these last three seasons has been nothing short of criminal. You bring in all of that talent, only manage to win 5 games in 2010 and 8 games in 2011.
If not for a bad call against OSU, they would be 3-3 after this week.

I keep telling this Bama grad at work that UT is going to send a armored car full to money to Nicky's house.

I'm not a Texas fan, but growing up in the SWC I get how Texas had fallen and what Mack did to rebuild them.
Look at what he did at Carolina to see how good he was. Crum left and then Carolina was awful, he begins to rebuild them, Torbush destroyed all his work in less than 3 years.

It's second most all time. Even if it is a mirage it's still damn good.

Current Facebook post on the OU website:
How do you make University of Texas cookies? A: Put them in a big Bowl and beat for 3 hours.

Mack will be around until he wants to leave IMO.

Before VY he was "coach February" and after VY he had a few good years with Colt and one title game appearance when OU slipped a little and Nebraska was crap.
For the most part, OU owned him his entire coaching career at UT. He was better obviously than his predecessors but he never made UT consistently elite.
That said, and as mentioned...Texas was never consistently elite like OU.

I'm sorry but UT has way too many resources and money to be content with coaches like Mack Brown and Rick Barnes.
