He shouldn't make a big deal about it, he should ask the coach what his reasoning is to have them hit in in the middle of their stance. If he has a good reason than fine, but he won't because it is incorrect. Don't call him out in front of everyone, just discuss it with him and tell him you don't want to coach his team or anything but wouldn't it be best if they learned to hit off of a tee correctly

like i said already, some guy made a comment that only the assistant coach could hear, and he got offended and said something back. the guy didn't say it in an assholish way.

When I coached girls t-ball..years ago...the other coaches and I taught the girls to bat left and right..our thought was they didn't know how to bat since what better time than to teach them both sides correctly...these girls are now Jr/sr in high school and some still bat both ways when needed...some like my daughter who is a righty bats left handed

if you're gonna be a coach, at least be prepared and teach it the right way. some people do like to do their best and not just half arse it.
It sounds like you accidentally signed your kid up for one of those laid-back leagues where dads coach and the kids goof off and get snacks after the game.

Is there a sports academy type league in your area where you pay more but the kids get coaches that do that for a living? That might be your best bet.

They have tiered leagues like that around here, everything from not even keeping score to very regimented.

...Also, when I was growing up we had some dads who were really into sports and wanted their kids to learn the right way. So they always volunteered to be the head coach or assistant coach. I don't remember any bickering from other parents.

I hate fatass dads who do nothing but bitch

I'm volunteering my time to teach your child how to play a sport, bc you don't have the time to be a parent

6 years old, he should be in coach's pitch anyway. Don't worry about it and help out at practice, that way you can at least teach your kid the right way.

This guy has volunteered his time to coach your sons team. Offer to be an assistant if you have knowledge that can be shared. Don't complain about his coaching of you don't have the time to do it. He is a volunteer not a paid professional. Teach your son at home and coach his team next year if you don't like it.

All of y'all saying that he's 6 and it doesn't matter have never worked with little kids on sports things I guess. This is right at the age where they are starting to develop their swings and hand eye coordination ect... It's one thing if he's teaching them a bad grip or something; but hitting the ball out front is a basic function of the swing and it's something that a lot of kids have a hard time understanding. You need to, at the bare minimum, make sure your kid does it the right way

I'm going to use 17 years as an elementary P.E. teacher,8 yrs as a youth baseball coach and my experience as a father of a 9 yr old and a 6 yrd old to say "YOUR WRONG". There's nothing a t-ball coach can do wrong with a 6 year old that can't be fixed a year later except make the game "not fun". 99 percent of all 6 yr olds will not retain anything in fine detail overnight much less from one season to the next and I'm not even going to get into the difference in hitting a stationary ball versus tracking a moving one through space visually and putting the bat on it. Your pretty much starting from scratch each February until they reach 8 or 9 and by that time they are old enough to adjust to coaching points as needed. Anyone who is stressing about their 6 year old being ruined needs to lighten up.

In regards to saying something to the coach. Volunteer to coach a team or sit there and shut up. It's hard enough to get enough dads who can committ to taking enough time out of their schedule to coach a team so the very few who do step up need to be left alone. If he's not screaming at the kids and your kid is enjoying the game be content and wait for the older years to get here.

I have taught 4 year olds THIS EXACT THING, and they have remembered it months later when I see them again.

Basically the situation you are describing happened today. It reminded me of this thread.

After the game...

Me: Hey, coach. I'm xxxx, xxxx's dad. Thanks for volunteering your time to coach. Since you're the only coach this season, it might be tough if something comes up. Feel free to let me know if you ever need somebody to fill in. I've coached in the past and even had a couple of these kids last season.

Him: Thanks for offer. In fact, you're more than welcome to help out either way. I need all of the help I can get out there.

Me: No problem. I'm out here anyway during practices and games, so I could just as easliy be out there helping out as an assistant coach.

Him: Thanks a lot. That sounds great.

Maybe he is teaching them to keep their hands inside the ball? I don't know though.
