i did coach kids last year. one thing i refuse to do is holler at a kid, or even raise my voice, no matter what. it's just a game.

personally i think sports is corrupt, but that's another story.

but if you're gonna be a coach, at least be prepared and teach it the right way. some people do like to do their best and not just half arse it.

It's 6 year olds playing T-ball. They aren't even listening to him.

Whether you would like to accept it or not.. the habits kids learn at a young age (whether it be listening to parents or habits of sports) will likely continue.

Being 6 years old and young is not an excuse to overlook your kid getting to know how to play the game the incorrect way.

This awful coach will destroy him when he's older and wants to go pro at t-ball.

All of y'all saying that he's 6 and it doesn't matter have never worked with little kids on sports things I guess. This is right at the age where they are starting to develop their swings and hand eye coordination ect... It's one thing if he's teaching them a bad grip or something; but hitting the ball out front is a basic function of the swing and it's something that a lot of kids have a hard time understanding. You need to, at the bare minimum, make sure your kid does it the right way

And of course you would fail to see the link between hitting the ball off of a tee and hitting off of a pitcher. Are you the coach the OP is talking about? Damn

I am very outspoken on here about the entire little league scene with the dads, travel ball, etc. However, even with my disdain for much of the craziness, I do find it necessary for the kids to be taught correctly. They should be taught proper techniques on throwing, fielding, and hitting. Do not let your young kid start bad habits. 6 year olds can be taught proper technique.

Nobody is saying anything close to that. Don't be stupid.

All we expect is the game to be taught the correct way. That is definitely not too much to ask for. I wouldn't care if my kid couldn't make contact as long as he is taught correctly. This discussion isn't about performance of a 6 year. It's about teaching the game to a group of kids.

I understand that, but is it that big of a deal to make a big deal out of it with the coach? Hitting doesn't even matter at that age. He can learn to hit in little league, he should focus on fielding and not being afraid of the ball when he's 6.

exactly, like I said hitting the ball in front is a key element to a baseball swing, and it isn't too complicated for a 6 year old, in fact it's one of the most important things to teach them.

They need to stop making tee bases shaped like home plates, it makes kids (and apparently coaches) think they need to hit it in the middle of their stance

He shouldn't make a big deal about it, he should ask the coach what his reasoning is to have them hit in in the middle of their stance. If he has a good reason than fine, but he won't because it is incorrect. Don't call him out in front of everyone, just discuss it with him and tell him you don't want to coach his team or anything but wouldn't it be best if they learned to hit off of a tee correctly
