This can only be measured when travel ball teams in 2042 are filled with white kids named “Shohei”

Ok

Let’s combine Ruth 1926-1928 postseason. That’s 3 total series, so same as a modern postseason

.431 avg—1.020 slugging—1.573 OPS

What Shoei did last night was awesome, and what he did in game 4 of the NLCS was the best game of all time

But this 2025 totality of the postseason at this point isn’t an ALL time payoff performance. He would need multiple games again last night to get there

Can he do it? Possibly. But he needs to do that before he is put in that bucket. If he goes 0-4 again with multiple strikeouts it won’t be close

I doubt they pitch much to him the rest of the way and he probably only has tonight left to pitch, unless he shows up in relief in a game 7.

I am someone who finds a lot of the discussion around single postseason statistics dumb because small samples in baseball can be extremely dumb. But the initial title of the OP is correct, and he might be the most singularly talented all around athlete in his sport that I have ever watched.

Disagree,

His narrative games are already in God tier.

3 HR’s while striking out 10 with 100MPH fastballs and launching one out Dodger stadium?

Reach base 9 times with 17 total bases in the World Series because you’re being intentionally walked ahead of several perennial all-stars after you’ve torched opposing pitching for 2HR and 12 total bases.

You weren’t alive for the Ruth called shot in the 1932 World Series. But you remember it because of the narrative. and Ohtani is collecting some serious narrative games under his belt. Narrative is always a player in GOAT topics.

Why did TEMU SFPs “Ohtani stinks in the postseason” thread get locked? Who’s protecting him

Let's wait to see how he pitches tonight before we crown him.

If he pitches really well, I will be shout it from the rooftops - move over Babe Ruth.

You started a thread saying he stinks in the postseason and expect not to get ragged on after a couple legendary performances and doubled and tripled down.

You are something else my man, keep doing you

I made a thread asking why someone hitting .205 in the postseason wasn’t being negatively talked about like others with better postseason stats. His performance after has zero relevance to the thread. None

If I would have said “Ohtani is a choking dog in the playoffs and isn’t clutch” I would get it, but it was nothing close to that. It was a thread asking why and how is he avoiding the same negative labels that others had to wear for doing even better

your own thread title asked when his poor performance in postseason would start getting talked about. I’d argue after his recent performances in the postseason the answer to your question would be never.

You were clearly crawfishing in that thread but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re never wrong. strangely you remind me a lot of my wife in that way

Why?

Bonds was called awful in the postseason for less
Same with judge

Want me to name more? Ohtani was the first superstar I have seen struggle for as long as he did in the postseason and there was no narrative around it

He is an awesome player but the media for whatever reason doesn’t narrate him the same as other superstars across all sports really. It’s an I interesting study . In a time the media loves nothing more than creating drama and wild swings they just don’t with him at all and he is a global superstar.

So glad that the family and I got to watch the Dodgers this summer. Kershaw pitched, Ohtani hit a HR.

Dude is just on another level. And we get to watch him pitch tonight.

Bonds was terrible in the postseason until 2002 when he was 38. Part of it was he never got a chance to change the narrative, but it was definitely not “less”. Last year was Ohtani’s first postseason.

While not as bad as Bonds, Judge has been bad in the biggest series (LCS and World Series) and has played in like 60 postseason games at this point over the course of 8 years.

Meet the entire reason for my thread

In the World Series last year judge did this:

.222 avg with a .808 OPS

Ohtani that WS?

.105 Avg with a .385 OPS

One called terrible, the other nothing or “small sample size”
