He’s the next evolution of boom. Where boom will misuse or misrepresent numbers and use double standards his arguments do stay on court. This guy makes straw men and non sequiturs like he was some machine designed to do so and you can see from his last post, he’ll connect a specific on court argument to something that has nothing to do with sports. boom’s integrity is 100x more than whatever this thing is.

Does he do that? He doesn’t seem bothered by much of anything.

I’m sure attention on this game, if there is even enough to speak of, would go away on its own. But I don’t think his legal team doing this is that big of an indictment on SGA himself

Folks are mad at the wrong people. The league and refs desperately need to clean up some rules or enforce some already on the books.

Correct but you need to be specific because the Copelahoma fans will twist and lie about it.

People like myself who don’t like any of these teams are mad at the league for this trash they’re putting out.

Nobody should be mad at SGA, he’s a competitor using whatever he can to win.

People who can’t stand OKC fans are 100% correct, they’re ignorant, insecure, dishonest and petty.

Need to separate these arguments because the last group with conflate them to obfuscate and deflect from the other two.

Easy to shoot 50% from the field when you draw a magical foul every other shot

This thread is a perfect encapsulation of the massive sky screaming melt going on by OKC haters.

Not one post or thread was ever created when Wemby did same thing or other stars.

Its pretty awesome to read the board during playoffs and watch the melt level increase day by day. Every hater is trying to outdo the other haters and its glorious seeing them trying to one up everyone else just like this thread.

Most well paid athletes in all sports have agents and lawyers who handle the business side. And their job is to protect their player money and NIL. There was ways around this without making it illegal.

But the extra helping of melt this created is extra spicy

100% true. However…

Wemby, Giannis, LeBron, etc weren’t seeing their “likeness” used to depict a beached salmon.

So just because you support he’s being made fun of with this board game means he shouldn’t pursue legal action for NIL when it’s clear he’s being depicted?

Like objectively what is the difference between this and if an OKC fan sold Tshirts with his face on it?

Does Shai have some sort of trademark on the name Shai, like Giannis does with "Greek Freak"?
I didn't think so.

No where does it say SGA or Shai Gilgeous Alexander, nor does it say OKC or Thunder.

They aren't using his name, his image, or his likeness. They are using a first name, and a caricature of a basketball player in a random jersey.
Lawyers will allow it.

I’m a spurs fan who lives in San Antonio and the FBI has been shutting down vendors who sell unlicensed spurs merch on the southside.

I also found that to be dumb.

If Wemby did the same thing then that’s dumb too.

I hope the lawyer lets you suck him off when he’s done though! Lol

Notice i have not once in this thread said whether i think his legal team should or shouldn’t proceed this way.

Merely sharing the news and drawing a contrast between this example and those others.

You really are out of touch.

Baseline understanding - all these companies spend billions to have deals with the leagues AND the players associations

That is how licensed partners can use the league’s IP and also used league approved IP (logos, player images, names, etc)

But there are limits. As always

For Underdog it appears they not only don’t have SGA’s NIL rights but they also don’t have an agreement with the NBA or NBPA.

Current players can promote a Sportsbook or even a casino but their NIL is negotiated heavily behind the scenes.

But negotiations these companies have with the league & player associations matter

Similar to how Madden or 2k can use players in game & a deal with cover athletes

This is the clincher. NBA does allow active players to promote sports books but not connected to anything with the NBA. They don’t have rights to use NBA IP in their product.

And SGA’s agents can’t allow a betting site use his NIL for those reasons. Its very basic but people just like to scream solely based on fandom and not facts

They didn't use anything NBA related. No where does it say NBA, or show a logo, or name a team or player specifically.

well it's a good think they didn't say SGA's full name, or use the word NBA or anything affiliated with the NBA or their teams.

Well they didn't, so there's that.

You do realize Underdog aren't morons right? They specifically didn't say his actual full name, or his nickname, or use his specific jersey? They didn't just come up with this for fun without consulting lawyers first. They are more than aware of what they are doing from a legal standpoint.

Yeah, you (and more so the other posters on here) are merely “drawing a contrast” by implying he shouldn’t pursue legal action because it’s a parody board game that clearly depicts (as you put it) a beached salmon.

Completely objective.
