Gary Sanchez can't hold Willson Contreras' jockstrap. This has to be a troll.

They have a similar total career plate appearance totals and Sanchez is ahead in most metrics.

Seems like one is headed one way while one is headed another. If I’m choosing between them to make a team tomorrow it’s not that close for me right now. And I’m not a fan of either team

Sanchez when he gets hot he can carry a team, Conteras can not.... Sanchez has more lows but his highs easily eclipse what Conteras does

I will take the guy who is steadily good vs the guy who is an absolute black hole for periods of time

Over the past two years, Sanchez has been worth more WAR.

ZIPS projects Sanchez to be better in both 2021 and 2022.

Sanchez is a better framer and has a better arm but allows a ton of passed balls where Conteras is better at blocking balls in the dirt

If you like Contreras more going forward, that’s reasonable. That Sanchez can’t hold his jock is not backed up by the data at all (I realize you aren’t the one that said that).

Sanchez has the biggest miscues in the post season which I think impacts how people view him. Look at the Astros series last year where he had dropped strikes, passed balls, and struggled at the plate

Contreras is about 3 WAR more on BR. Sanchez edge on Fangraphs is tied entirely to his framing. If you want to hinge your opinion on them on that that’s on you, I strongly disagree

I’m not saying he can’t hold his jock and never said that. I think Contreras is definitely better. My view may be skewed some from the Astros Yankees series where he’s been consistently the worst player on the field as well.

Cody just fought off an inside heater and plopped it into right field for a hit. Encouraging last couple of nights

Over the past two years BR gives Conteras 6.2 WAR
They give Sanchez 4.2 WAR

During that time Sanchez has played 195 games and Conteras 243 games

So I'd give you Conteras because he is more durable as Sanchez always seems to have an injury

Sanchez keeps hitting home runs and then striking out every other at bat

That’s really my whole point here. I don’t have much of a strong opinion between the two, but the “can’t hold his jock” was bullshite. And I realize you aren’t the one who said.

I also think Contreras is a better athlete and will hold up better with time. Honestly the catcher position is so rough at the ML level right now. Lots of great catching prospects and hopefully it improves here soon
