from what I've read even the batter admitted he knew he was out

He shouldn't reverse the call.
But for what it's worth, I am REALLY impressed with the way the the umpire handled it afterwards...
apologized and Gallaraga(sp?) handled it like a professional too...
That's what I'm taking away from this.
It's not just Team vs Team... there's another Team out there too... the blue. It's part of the game, us diehard baseball fans understand that.
It's the rest of the public who sees a quick clip played over and over and a bunch of 'experts' come in and weigh in their opinions on whether or not to add IR.
It's part of the game, it wasn't the game ended call (from what I read) and it was for an OUT for a perfect game, something that doesn't effect the score of the game... Selig was right.
This case is similar in that regard to the '86 world series Buckner saga... that play wasn't the game ender... it didn't LOSE the world series... it went to a game seven, the sox led 3-0 and couldn't hold on..
All I'm taking away from this is how much more I respect the pitcher and the ump for their class and reaffirms my love for the game.

correct decision, without a doubt.
but, Selig and the brass are still to blame for loving tradition over accurate officiating and refusing to use instant rep

GTFO.
Just GTFO.
Selig did the right thing though.

Hate to say it, but...good.
Would have been a horrible precedent.

I wonder if cooperstown is collecting stuff from the game, i'd sure as shite bet this gets an exhibit.

How many times have no homers been called homers. In other words, one ref thinks it hits the wall below the yellow line, and another says it hit above. They all get together and boom, home run. Why didn't this happen last night?

agree. IMO this has been a great season for baseball so far. they did lose me after the roids but this year has opened my eyes to the greatness of the game again

Yes, you are. The commish overturning umpires is a horrible precedent to set.

How is removing a hit from the last play of a game that didn't effect the outcome, a can of worms?

Nowhere in that article does it have the Selig saying he will not reverse the call.
Go back and slowly read it. goddamn
Sloppy journalism and shitty reading comprehension skillz on this board.

I wouldn't trust Bud Selig with any important decision anyway

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said he would look at the game's umpiring system and the expanded use of instant replay, but would not reverse the blown call that cost Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers a perfect game on Wednesday night.
"While the human element has always been an integral part of baseball, it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed," Selig said in a statement. "Given last night's call and other recent events, I will examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features."

The umpire kinda over-turned himself after seeing it on replay; the commish ruling it a perfect game wouldn't do anything except just that - award the kid the perfect game that he rightfully deserved.
Everybody can see it was the wrong call. There doesn't have to be a precedent or a slippery slope.

Gallaraga and Joyce have shown how to act with grace under pressure. This is, strangely, a proud day for baseball just by how they have handled making a mistake. Kids, this is how adults act.

You can acknowledge a perfect game without changing the box score. This is a BASEBALL GAME, not the Dow Jones.
