Good, overturning the call wouldn't do anything.

Judgement call. Bad judgement, bad call.

or should we retro-actively award the 85(?) world series to the Cardinals?

correct decision, without a doubt.

but, Selig and the brass are still to blame for loving tradition over accurate officiating and refusing to use instant replay.

he's the commissioner and can do what he wants. he could give Galarraga the perfect game. he knows it should have been a perfect game, otherwise he wouldn't be considering expanded replays

On Instant Replay

I think coaches should get a challenge or two, like the NFL.

If this call had been in the 1st inning, do you think anybody would really care. Another 1 hitter, oh well.

I think they should call it the 20th perfect game and just put an * next to it

i dont think anyone could argue that

what would be the penalty for getting a challenge wrong? a ball added to the next count or something? don't see it working.

i see this as just a rare exception. how often is a perfect game taken into the 8th or 9th? this is history and everyone knows it should be a perfect game.

unlike the '85 world series, this does not change the outcome of the game. it could put Galarraga in the history books for something he deserves. changing that play to an out wouldn't change Cleveland or Detroit's record at the end of the year.

a perfect game was thrown. the ump admitted to screwing it up. Selig knows it is a perfect game if the call wasn't blown.

1) That call didn't end the game, the one last night did. If called correctly the game is over and he gets his perfect game.

2) You would be taking something away from someone else. Awarding him the perfect game doesn't take away anything from Indians.

but that wasn't the situation. what happened was in the 9th inning, with one out to go. and everybody does care because of it. everybody thinks he should have gotten his perfect game

i think it should have been overturned in this once case. it should have been the last out, there isnt any consideration like there would be in other cases as to what would have happened following it

+10000000000
the '85 world series has no influence in this decision, nor can it be compared. this decision will not change the outcome of a game. Galarraga retired 28 batters in a row in the eyes of everyone who saw it, even the umpire and commissioner

6 perfect games since 1990 lost in the 9th, either the last out or one lost in extra innings (Pedro when he was with the Expos)

Mussina was in there as well

my issue with changing it would be the joy is really in the immediate aftermath of the perfecto.
