I think you put way too much thought into this flame. Anyone who thinks the Bama/AU, UT/Bama, AU/UGA, FL/LSU, Bama/LSU, OM/MSU, etc rivalries aren't heated simply haven't experienced them in person.

UT/OU......you kidding me with that noise? Talk about a horrible thread.

At least the aforementioned SEC teams have some sort of rivalry or heated games... LaTech has no true rival anymore, and I wish we did. Obviously in our hearts, LSU is the rival, BUT it's hard to have a rival you never play in any sports for the most part. It used to be Southern Miss, and we just re-kindled the series last year, but it's become more of a big friendly gathering than any sort of hatred, so that's a bust as far as that goes... I guess time allowed the emotions to die off a bit.

Back on topic, I've asked quite a few LSU fans who they believed their biggest rival was, and I always get different answers. I pretty much hear Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Florida out of them, and I think so far I've heard Auburn slightly more than the others. Ole Miss seems to come from older people, and people who claim Alabama seem to always refer to Nick Saban, which is just silly and is a hatred for him, not the actual program. Thus, from my limited sampling, I've come to see it as Auburn. The Arkansas thing was just an excuse to create a trophy game in the SEC. NOTHING is like the Iron Bowl rivalry.

SEC fans realize that the better the league is the better you look when you win it.

yeah, why doesn't that happen? is tech afraid of being embarrassed by a directional school?

Rivalries are a funny thing...As an LSU fan in BR, i like to be hospitable to visitors, invite them to the tailgate to have a couple beers, have some food, bullshite etc but when it comes to ole miss being in town i find myself glaring at them and not doing any of those things. I hate them. I hate any one that wears an ole miss hat or shirt. anyone that went there. frick ole miss. seriously.

but i can tell you living in memphis away from BR on fall saturdays that i'll miss it immensely.

i don't think it's directly that Tech is worried about being embarassed. I feel they should win against ULM more times than not.

But I feel it's a thing where Tech wants to hold themself to a higher esteem that ULM.

....but i'mma chillax on this subject before XIV shows up.

Yeah, the lack of real rivalries is really holding the SEC back from winning BCS titles.

Oh wait...

This is pretty much on point. Obviously if we play them all the time, we'll lose to them at some point. Hell, Alabama lost to them at home. Honestly though, ULM folks lose interest after about one game, and it becomes one-sided, so it is boring. We'd much rather play LSU for all the Louisiana marbles than deal with ULM as our "rival." For what it's worth though, Tech fans seem to get nasty with ULM and ULL in all other sports, so I guess that's the closest we get to a rivalry. If ULM had more fans and they'd show up to games en masse, I'd say, "bring it on, why the hell not?" I really don't care who we play, as long as we kick arse, get ranked again, and win some freakin' bowls... Rivalry is energizing though.

To my more on-topic point earlier though... Would you guys say Auburn's possibly the biggest "rival" of LSU? I wouldn't have guessed that until I asked around like I did.

I would think so yes, Auburn.

I'm too young to believe it's Ole Piss and to realistic to believe it's Alabama. Majority of the hate for Alabama comes with the Nick Saban ordeal and their own arrogance.

But no, I don't think LATech should put much stock in building a football rivalry with ULM. Their fanbase is pitiful, seats wouldn't fill, and interest would be lost quickly. And as much as they want to be, LSU and Tech aren't on the same level. So, for now they are kind of stuck with no rivalr....

Roger that. Obviously us Tech folks aspire to get our program up there with LSU, buuuuut for now I'd like to at least get out of the WAC and into C-USA and mix it up with Southern Miss every year. Gotta start at step 1...

See what I mean about the confused rivalry thing? I'm gonna go with "Auburn is the most commonly hated team for LSU fans, but some of them throw Florida and occasionally Ole Miss into the mix." I think we all agree that the Arkansas "rivalry" thing is either one-sided from the Hogs' standpoint, or is just a way to create a trophy 'cause the states make a neato boot shaped thingy.

I dunno...i don't really think so. I don't really know of anyone that hates auburn. its mostly florida, bama and ole miss.

but you are correct about the arky-lsu thing...most lsu fans don't consier arky to be on the same level as LSU.

Most insanely clueless thing said on this message board in a long, long, long time. You can't even fathom how incorrect this statement is. The Alabama/Auburn rivalry makes you're little Duke/UNC rivalry look like a church gathering. The only other 2 rivalries that come close are Ohio State/Michigan and Florida/Florida State. Honorable mention with intensity is Texas/OU.

Go to the SEC rant and find out how wrong you are. For that matter just see how many "O's" or Bama fans are in the ATPB thread.
