re: SEC, Big 10 deciding whether playoff expansion will be 16 or 24 teams

The question for me is how to get subjectivity out of the system.
No committee no rankings is no formulas. Just records and division finishes.
Top 4 division winners in B1G and SEC. Plus 1 wild card each. Top 2 division winners in ACC and B12.
1 wild card each.
To get subjectivity out of it and others use rankings......Notre Dame has to join a conference and no more top ranked group of 6 stuff.

It was going to eventually happen the day they started talks on going to just 12 teams. There is too much money to be made

I'm not saying Iowa was a bad team, they're a good team. But not a playoff team this year.
Yeah, but if this were a 24 team bracket, they’d have played Miami and it would have been a good hard fought close game.

BCS (2 teams): lasted 16 years
4 team playoff: 10 years
12 team playoff: 2 years
16 team playoff:
We all predicted this was inevitable, but, it would take years. Nope, it is already fully supported by the conference commissioners.
In fact, it has so much support that they want to implement it NEXT season. There is so much support for 16, that the Big 10 has already moved to promoting the next expansion to 24 teams.
The Big 10 isn’t holding out because they are against 16 teams. They are hoping to leverage the current momentum for expansion to keep going to 24 teams.

12 is already too many.
24 is fricking retarded. That size field would include teams like Iowa, that went 8-4 on the season and was 0-4 against ranked opponents. Why do they deserve a playoff spot when they didn’t beat any teams that were worth a damn? All they did was beat up on the bottom of the B1G and a couple of shitty FCS teams

It sounds like they just wanna get rid of the bowl system and make every current bowl game an actual playoff game of some level.
I’m all for that. I don’t wanna watch bowl games. I wanna watch playoff games

The correct move is to remain at 12 teams for 2026 and continue discussions on a 16-team playoff beginning with the 2027 season.

Iowa gets a lot of hatred on here. Iowa was a play away from beating Indiana and Oregon this season and they beat Vanderbilt who most thought could have been a playoff team.

Just do it like FCS does, but start the season on the last weekend of August and end the season Thanksgiving weekend. 24 teams, 8 byes... let Army/Navy play first weekend of December and then start the playoffs the next weekend...

Nah, I think most these guys see Iowa for what they are, nearly always solid, but not built to regularly beat elite teams.
Their hate for expansion lies in their desire for the regular season to have an outsized impact on who plays for the national championship to maintain some facade of tradition.

And you guys still would be excluded every year...
Nebraska is below Iowa lol

a 24 team playoff would be retarded

24 teams is laughable.

24 teams is a good number. The top 8 teams get a first round bye. The other 16 play each other the first week with 9 v 16 and so on.

Id probably quit watching if they went to 24 teams. CFB is already a joke at 12 with the NIL and portal
