I've watched every game Walsh has played. I actually would have had more confidence in him making a 50 yard FG than that one.

I'm sure Paul Allen was crushed. He's called some crazy playoff losses.

He call of the Brett Favre interception in the NFC Championship was great

I've kicked alot, I'm consistent from 35 in. The laces didn't cause him to pull it, it never started on line.

Agree. Walsh made a FG right down the middle from farther away with the ball being placed in the same position with the laces out

The issue is a kick with the laces in isn't consistent. Just because he made one earlier doesn't guarantee it will happen again. The holder bares the brunt of the blame here.

No, I played soccer and like to kick fgs with my buddy for fun. I'm not a world beater, but a 35 yard field goal is not that difficult. Laces will affect the flight, but my whole point is he pulled it from the start.

And when you're kicking no pressure kicks from a stand at some empty field do you ever set the ball up with the laces in? I'm betting you don't.

It makes a huge difference. Next time you go kick, try it.

I kicked in college. My brother kicked in college. That kick was a straight yank from that distance. The only time the ball will do funny things is if the laces are on the right or left at impact. As a kicker you of course want the laces out but the second best option is laces in.

It looked like he hit it fat and yanked it left... I think he probably rushed it a little bc Seattle was close to blocking one earlier...

He made a longer kick with the laces in earlier in the game... I wouldn't be surprised it he told the holder to not worry about spinning the ball.

Haven't heard any fireworks near China Town. I should go pop off that ship's flare with the parachute I've been saving.

Unreal game. Can't believe that miss. Hawks seemed so anemic on O but then the tables turned. Vikings D came to play. Next game should be great too.

I'd have wanted that kick from the center of the field. Kick would have been good from anywhere but the left hash.

Wasn't he kicking with laces in all day?

The tables didn't really turn... Wilson pulled one out of his arse and turned a 20 yard loss into a touchdown... then Petersons fumble sets up the FG.

It's a myth that the placement of the laces has any effect on the kick. The foot (or the part of the foot that actually matters) makes contact with the ball well below the stripes or laces. From that alone, one can deduce that it doesn't matter. The only thing that should ever effect the direction of the ball is the plant foot, but even then, every kick- from an extra point to a 55 yarder from the hash- should have the exact same mechanics.
I doubt he would have even seen which way the laces were facing. By the time the ball is down, the kick is already in motion and isn't going to change. Kickers train to be consistent . Walsh messed up.

Congratulations to the Minnesota Vikings !!!

You repeated your successful avoidance of going 0-5 in the Superbowl by managing to get knocked out of the playoffs.

Nice copy and paste job. That assumes an otherwise perfect hold. Of course, a hold where the laces are in already isn't perfect. The holder gets blame here.
