Schefter Tweet
quote:

Rams are giving WR Brandin Cooks a five-year extension worth $80 million, tying him to LA for six years at $88 million, per source.

$50.5 guaranteed for injury per Rapoport:
quote:

The #Rams signed WR Brandin Cooks to a 5-year extension worth $81M, source said. $16.2M yearly average in new money. He gets $50.5M guaranteed for injury — $20.5M fully guaranteed at signing.

Two teams voluntarily walked away from a guy under 25 with top-ten production for two years In a row.

And now their best player is still waiting to be paid while they act like the Yankees of the NFL in the offseason.

The Rams locker room is going to be toxic if they’re not sprinting out the gate.

To be fair, they were both offered damn good compensation to do it. Brandin Cooks is an elite deep threat, and those types get paid.

the optics are iffy but
quote:

Jason La Canfora ? @JasonLaCanfora Aaron Donald has told some close to him that he anticipates a new deal being done before camp opens. Would behoove the Rams to do as much and that is certainly their hope

so it seems like they were working on both at the same time and this just went through first because it was easier and cooks isnt about to become the highest paid defensive player in the history of the sport

Am I missing something on why people think this contract is outlandish?

I think it's a pretty big overpay for Cooks. That's just my opinion, of course.

He is a good player, and I think Landry's contract is worse...

But just having watched Cooks play a lot, I think his stats are an illusion. He is not as good of a player as his stats indicate. Very much a one trick pony, disappears a lot, struggles to break anything after contact, etc etc.

Not being a dick, just asking for why

He is 24 years old and has been

13th, 7th, and 10th respectively the last 3 years for WRs in terms of receiving yards

What exactly do you think he is worth?

FunBunch covered a lot of it. He's also been in offenses led by Brees and Brady his whole career, not that Goff is a slouch. I also think it's telling that Payton and Billichick let him go so quickly and easily. He's never really impressed me.
