We could literally go back to how it was 20 yrs ago if we had the nuts to do so. Put the scholarship/housing contract in front of them, and move on if they don’t sign.
That Supreme Court case was 9-0, it’s not going back. The NCAA was stupid for not getting ahead of this 20 years ago in a more controlled manner.

Do they not get it wrong sometimes? They might be the Supreme Court, but they’re not God

Maybe I am wrong but the schools have more power. I am not rooting for Arch Manning and the Austin Steers. Nor, would anyone care about Trinidad and the Oxford Oxen. The athletes need to realize their values are tied to the schools. That's why minor league teams never get the big attention.
And the schools do need to do a better job sharing the money. Maybe give the athletes their cost of tuition.
And frick any two faced coach who is talking about saving college sports while being a huge part of the problem.

Does that not apply to the NCAA?

These same "kids" that can join the military and go to war and die for us? These same kids who fuel one of if not the most lucrative sports businesses in the US? Why do you hate adults participating in the free market? Are you a communist?
Yep and the ones who play for the schools that require them to serve their country post graduation do not get a penny in NIL.
It's not a free market. It's an extension of the education system that in most cases is subsidized by taxpayers. No one would give two shits about these kids in the free market which is why no one has created a minor league system. If the free market would support it then private equity would have set up a minor league system that drafted and paid players out of high school long ago.
The fans show up to cheer for the letters on the helmet not the name on the back of the jersey.

Do you understand how much tuition costs at elite universities?
Or even fairly mediocre ones, out of state.

frick it. End it all. Go to DIII. Have PE teachers as coaches. $10 tickets.

If Rasin' Canes, All Star Ford, Nike, and/or Riverside Towing want to pay a player $2M, $8M, $80M for the use of the players NIL,
This is where the problem lies. The top colleges programs are "spending" up to 10 times what the athletes on a typical NFL team collectively generate in NIL deals. It has obviously become pay to play under the disguise of NIL. If we're being honest very few players have any true NIL value as an athlete on campus much less before they step foot on campus.

The total endorsement money on a typical NFL team varies wildly, but averages roughly $2 million to $5 million per year combined for the entire 53-man roster, heavily skewed by one or two star players.

That was more a show of support for his boss and the AD veiled under the guise of promoting the PCSA. Wonder how much Hunter paid him to do that?

Well that’s false, otherwise LSU would be rolling out Southeastern’s roster due to it being a lot cheaper lol
10 MM watched two option style juggernauts play in the Army/Navy game last year. Probably not a single player on the field that day will ever step on an NFL field.
If every team in the country had nothing but 2 and 3 star athletes then college football would still be just as popular as it is today. No one gives a shite about minor league teams. They care about competitive college teams. There is a reason why the people of LA made LSU the Mecca of college baseball but didn't support a far superior product in a AAA minor league team.

It would be as popular as the teams that play with 2 and 3 star athletes… a lot of the college audience is pro fans like me trying to watch for future potential. LSU baseball is a one-off situation and in most of the country, minor league baseball is more popular than college baseball.

BS . . . LSU sold 100,000 + seats every year running the toss dive under Les Miles. As long as they are competitive the people will come and support it!

Its not just LSU its the entire SEC because those are the most competitive programs.

And for every "pro fan like you" there is a college fan that no longer cares b/c the sport has lost its amateurism.

Yes, the names on the jersey represent generations of fans that are attached to that and that is real tangible value that is impossible to replicate.
On the flip side, the players hold real value to those brands because boosters are willing to pay them 6-7figures to play.

How many did they sell under Curley Hallman? You may or may not have liked Les but his teams always had talent

I guess you lack reading comprehension or missed the whole part about being competitive . . .

Any cap on player compensation on NIL is terrible.
Why do you believe that? Is it just that we live in a free market and the market is what the market is?
I'm not saying you're wrong but you're pretty set in that.
I think they could have started with a "cap" in the first years of NIL to not let everything just be the wild west and see how it evolved. Now it's hard to put that back into the basket.
I ultimately the cap is going to be when the NFL/NBA lose guys who want to make as much money as a first rounder to stay in school

You said “if every team in the country had 2 and 3 star talent” then proceeded to name Les Miles LSU

So why aren't they doing that then?
All of these schools, can get the same TV, sponsor money and play some JUCO kids happy to get on a D1 field and save $30, $50 million a year?
Why doesnt FSU fire Norvell then balance his $70 millon buyout by skimping on Player payments for the next few seasons?
Why hasn't it happened yet?
The reason why nobody is doing that because a short sighted thing that would cost then recruiting, money and popularity in the long run obviously.
The same reason you keep ignoring the schools role in this escalating arms race, the main drivers of all of this and blame the athletes.

without knowing how this bill even limits players compensation, not sure if it's a team cap or individual player
But the idea that if Manziel had transferred after his Heisman season in 2014, he was someone with limited NFL potential, but Manziel would also subject to a cap on his college earnings while at his peak value?
It's bad for players.
