Saban got great fast because they paid players. FACT. Now the playing field has been leveled now that everybody can pay players. That's why he was against it.
He was able to stay relevant by changing his archaic offense with the Kiffin hire.
I don't even think Dabo can save your program now.

Greatest recruiter. Definitely not Xs and Os.

8 or 10 years ago someone posted a chart of relationship of recruit class to finish in sec. very high correlation.

he's got several 5 stars for next class. several.

after 21-0 he got the best west Monroe and the best south Louisiana a couple years. devastating.

I'll like him a lot more if he would hurry up and retire.

Greatest coach ever, no doubt. Greatest coach last night? Nah. Saban’s lifetime accomplishments aren’t the topic of discussion right now though. You know what we want to talk about, but you’re trying to claim some weird moral victory.

Saban had the benefit of having a BCS NCG format and a Playoff format.

FSU had 14 straight seasons finishing in the top four. Had there been a Playoff, Bowden could have had more than two national titles.

Poll and regional politics denied Paterno and Penn State more opportunities at a national title. Undefeated in 1968, 1969, 1973, 1994 and no national title. It’s quite humorous that his first of two national titles in 1982 was with a regular season loss.

Nebraska with a tie against Miami in the 1984 Orange Bowl would still have given Nebraska the 1983 national title, but Osborne wanted the win. Huskers lost in the last second to FSU in the bowl for the 1993 season. Osborne easily could have more than three national titles had there been a Playoff system.

Switzer is another example of a great coach who was better than just the three national titles he won. He’s said numerous times that OU should have won in 1977, 1978, 1984, 1987; but lost one regular season game late or the bowl, but knew his teams were better. Had their been a Playoff, Sooners easily could have won more under Switzer.

Everything is just circumstantial. Saban is the best of all time. But let’s not forget that the system was kind to him in allowing 2011 and 2017 to happen.
