Steelers got a bargain.

The 9-time pro bowler went to the perfect team. He is already better than anything they've seen since Big Ben. And he is laughing all the way to the bank. Denver is starting to rival Chicago in ineptitude.

Honest question, was he really so bad that all he could get was the league minimum?

I believe he will be like the 5th highest paid QB in the NFL next season.
39M +1.2 = $40M

He does on checkdowns and short crossers.

And the year before with Denver he had 16 TD’s and 11 Int’s.

He can’t carry a team. 85 million was ridiculous for a game manager.

Was Wilson ever a franchise type QB?
The reason the Seahawks were so successful with those Super Bowl runs is the defense and leaning on the run game.

Once he got the big contract and they had to break up the defense because of salary cap it was all downhill from there.

Serious answer, yes

That's not a serious answer, sorry. Was he elite, no, is a weird arse, yes, but he's still an above average QB.

Wilson went to 9 pro-bowls. What he needs is a system he can thrive in. QBs without an offensive scheme to support what they do best is just wasting your money.

Wouldn’t want this guy in my building at this stage of his career. There were reports out of Denver he didn’t want anyone to have his phone number or know where he lived.

His going to wreck that locker room with all his diva bullshite.

No way they’re bringing all that in for him to be the backup

So zero responsibility for the Hawks GM drafting like a complete retard for half a decade? That defense got old, and wasn't worth the money anymore. Giving them money and letting Russ go would have resulted in years of basement dwelling. Instead, we just saw Russ have to play against the opposing team and his own head coach. What Pete Carroll did to undermine Russ was criminal. Seeing the Oline they passed on in the draft was maddening. "Here's DJ Metcalf, if you are still upright by the time he gets open, throw it to him."

I was listening to t'Athletic Free Agency show last night (it's from a week or so ago) and they made a great case that Russell Wilson and Arthur Smith are a match made in shite. Smith wants his QBs to throw over the middle and Russ refuses to do so

This is a Mike Tomlin move but you're not wrong.

This is my main concern (other than he's washed) as well but if anyone can keep him in check it'll be Tomlin, Heyward and Watt. The latter two run that locker room and they won't put up w/any bullshite.

That and I hope Wilson gets beat out by Kenny just to see KillerNut commit sepuku.

It's a low risk move. I'm not upset over that aspect. It's just that Wilson is 1.Washed and 2. Is a diva.

Me as a Steelers fan RN on signing Wilson:

Why?

At worst you have a very experienced backup.

At best, he plays decent football and you have a one year starter whom you are paying next to nothing (relative to NFL salaries).

I guess the biggest risk is that his goofy arse screws up the locker room. But I think the Steelers organization is more stable than most.

At 20, Pittsburgh isn't going to have access to draft one of the top QB prospects. And anyone else they could get in free agency would cost WAY more than the minimum they are paying Wilson.

I hope Russ balls out so we can laugh at Payton and the Broncos.

Steelers go to Mile High at some point, hasn’t been scheduled yet, but would be hilarious if Russ lights em up in a W. The Broncos will have paid $39 million for him to beat them

Anything the Steelers pay him is subtracted from the $39 million the Broncos owe him so no reason for the Steelers to pay anything more than the minimum.

Broncos and the Steinbrenner model. Dump players and pay their salary for another team.
