Is this suppose to be difficult. I'm not a runner and without really trying I run a 7 min mile pace on my first two miles out of a 10 mile run.

Maybe I should go all out and try to do this.

So you're not a runner, but know your average mile split for the first two miles on a 10 mile run?

Something doesn't add up here man

Sub 4 minute mile is so absurd. I couldn't break 6 minutes if I gave it my all I don't think. I am pretty positive I could break 60 seconds on the 400 meter, but I'd have to be hospitalized immediately after

Don't think Dan did it, at least for a true mile, not converted.

Most ot'rs couldn't break 60 for a 440. I'm not sure there are more than a couple that have ever gone sub 2 for 880.

Exactly.

quote:

The four minute mile has become a litmus test to the growing strength of American distance running. Running four laps in 60 seconds a piece has been done by just over 396 Americans in the past fifty years. Sometime this spring, we will hit 400 Americans who have broke four minutes for the mile!

America's Sub-4:00 Fraternity, The Quest To "Break Four" Still Inspires

quote:

The excitement builds as the total number of American milers who have broken 4:00 closes in on 400 - a total that will likely be surpassed sometime prior to Mother's Day. But it wasn't always that way. After Bannister's groundbreaking mile in the spring of 1954, it was over three years until the first American [Cal's Don Bowden - T&FN's #1] turned the trick. By the 10th anniversary of Bannister's feat, only 9 Americans had broken 4:00. Slowly, the pace of the American onslaught on 4:00 gradually rose, but ultimately plateaued. And for decades roughly 6 new American milers entered the sub-4:00 club each year. By the 20th anniversary of Bannister's feat, 69 American milers had dipped under 4:00; by the 30th anniversary, 133 had done so; by the 40th anniversary, 196 U.S. milers had broken the barrier; and by the 50th anniversary, the total number of American milers under 4:00 had risen to 259. But since the 50th anniversary of Bannister's legendary mile, there has been an explosion of elite miling in the U.S. Since then - not quite 9 years - 138 new American sub-4:00 milers as of this writing - over 15 new members per year - have been added to this exclusive list. In 2012 - last year alone - 23 new American milers joined the ranks of American milers who had broken four.

First of all, you ran 10 miles, so by default you're a runner and you were clearly trying since running 10 miles is like 100% effort, you didn't accidentally run 10 miles.

Second of all you are talking about shaving over 3 minutes off of that time, that's A LOT of time

Placed 2nd in a road race to this guy when he was a Jr. or Sr. in high school. Tried to run him down the last mile, and when he turned around and saw me coming, he took off like it was nothing.

All I could do then was just say "Holy shite!".

I run two miles at a sub 5 pace and cant come remotely close to breaking 4 from where I am. Does that answer your question?

He raced the 5k as an alum at the meet we went to at McNeese earlier this season. He was like mid 14s I think and the next closest person was mid to upper 15. Never seen anyone go that quick on their own. Didn't even look that winded afterwards either.

I use the app map my run.

No, I'm not a runner. I'm 6"2' and 220, not exactly a runners build. Training for tough mudder. Took me awhile to get to 10 miles.

I also do interval training. Sprint for 45 seconds and then walk for 45 seconds then run again for 4 miles. That is hard as hell. I'll do the math and see what my pace is here compared to the 4 min, mile.

If he's an OT baller, then I'm sure he's not far off. That, his 4.5 40 and 250k per year bank.

I ran 9:02 for 3000m, but still only 4:17 for 1500m. A sub 4 mile would have to be 3:42-3:44 at the 1500m mark. Insane.

A 4 minute mile is the equivalent of running 44 40 yard dashes at 5.45 seconds each. That's impressive.
