Just one week after the 60th anniversary of the first sub-four minute mile, Louisiana may make its own history in the classic race.

Hathaway graduate Jarrett LeBlanc will try to become the fourth Louisianian to break four minutes for a full mile Sunday (May 18) at the 7th Annual Meet Under the Lights at St. Martin's Episcopal in Metairie.

At 1,609 meters, a full mile is slightly longer than the more commonly contested 1,600 or 1,500 meter races. LeBlanc ran a personal record of 3:43.77 for 1,500 meters on April 26, which converts to 4:00.22 for 1,600 and 4:01.6 for a full mile.

would be dang awesome. hope he gets it.

I don't consider it history when you're the 4th person to do something

i mean its not like its a common occurrence or anything. there have been 20+ perfect games but people still think its historic when somebody throws one.

Hathaway is a village 10 miles north of Jennings on HWY 26. Very small public school with Pre-k to 12 grade all under one roof. It's pretty much a school, gas station and a caution light

I know this will sound like an OT brag or whatever but I ran a 5:15 in 9th grade as a basketball player with zero track. In order to make our varsity team you had to either run under 6:00 minutes or you ran the entire the mile before tryouts for the entire 2 weeks until you could make the time or until you made the team. Once you did it you were exempt for future years but I was so nervous about it going into HS I ran 8-9 miles a day on top of playing basketball 3-4 hours a day to get ready so it was pretty easy. Obviously a 5:15 is NOWHERE near a 4 minute mile but I know I could have broken 5 pretty easily if I stuck with it.

yea breaking 5 isnt all that hard once you start really training for it. if youre not training its tough as heck though.

Pretty sure there have already been 4.

Shannon Lemora, Ryan Travis, Daniel Lincoln, and Jeremy Huffman

I remember running against Ryan Travis. He had hypoglycemia really bad, so he'd eat several Snickers bars right before races. I didn't know about his health issue until later, so I tried to mimic his Snickers routine but that only backfired on me

More than 1,000 people have broken a 4 minute mile.

I am sure there is at least one OT'er that has done it backwards.
