Ron Turcotte, Secretariat's Triple Crown-winning jockey, has passed away at age 84.

Secretariat's owner and trainer almost fired him before the triple crown because he got 5th in a race he easily should have won. He admitted he made some mistakes with the horse and begged them to stay the jockey. They didn't fire him and the rest was history... if anyone hasn't seen the Secretariat sportscentury, it's a must watch and really portrays how magnificent the horse was.

The 2nd place horse in the first 2 races Sham would have won a triple crown in any other year except 1973.

Hopefully heaven provides wheelchair accessibility unlike Churchill Downs did to him a few years ago during the Derby.
