Roger Goodell Provides Update on Future of NFL Sunday Ticket

Big-time announcers have made moves, Amazon is now the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football and Monday night doubleheaders are going to become a thing next season, but when it comes to the NFL and television, most fans want to know one thing: What is going to happen to NFL Sunday Ticket once the league’s contract with DirecTV expires after the 2022 season.
Commissioner Roger Goodell provided a tiny update Friday during an interview with CNBC.
“I clearly believe we’ll be moving to a streaming service,” said Goodell. “I think that’s what’s best for the consumers.”
That means DirecTV will be out, and an entity such as Apple, ESPN+ or Amazon will be in.
Goodell also revealed that a decision on what will happen with Sunday Ticket will be probably be announced this fall.
There are pros and cons to Sunday Ticket going to a streaming service, but the pros far outweigh the cons. Obviously, Sunday Ticket will become available to everyone and not just DirecTV customers. In addition, you have to believe that the tech companies fighting for the rights to Sunday Ticket will provide unique innovations that will only enhance the fan experience.
The biggest con is there is a significant lag time with streaming services. If you are someone who follows Twitter on an NFL Sunday, you will find out about touchdowns there before you see them on your TV, iPad or whatever device you are streaming on. This will also affect those of you who engage in live wagering during an NFL game.

Goodell also confirmed the league will be launching its own streaming service, called NFL+, in time for the upcoming season in September. He didn’t provide details on pricing or what will be available on the service, but he emphasized NFL+’s content will likely improve over time.
“It’s really in an early stage,” Goodell said. “I think over the years it will continue to grow. It will be an important strategy for us going forward.”

Why not have both streaming and cable options?

I’m sure the NFL will arrange it with whatever service they choose that their streams are prioritized to be as close to live action with little delay. Too much money at stake in live betting.

Cable is dead. I've been streaming exclusively for the past 6 or 7 years. I have an internet system robust enough that it doesn't even think about buffing. I have my own personal Modem and router to get to the most remote part of my house with gusto. I have firesticks, Roku's, and some Android device I don't even use. I am a streamer.
The Yankees decided they would take their product from the YES network to Amazon for key games this year as well as Peacock and even Apple TV. That is ridiculous, considering that people are already paying good money to watch the entire season on YES. Now they have to pay extra to catch them on these other streaming services. What a stupid money grab and it has ticked off a lot of Yankee fans. A lot of fans have no idea and aren't set up with the technology to follow their team all year.
But, as I said, I'm a streamer, and I'm set up to stream and I haven't missed a game all season.

Define "done well". Their announcers and presentation are horrible

I like Sirius XM.All teams radio broadcasts, and the NFL channel is like Red zone in that they will flip to a game once done team has entered the Red zone.

Without both options the sport will die.
Nobody wants to stream games.
TNF ratings will show that this year, nobody will be watching

I guarantee there are more people who want to stream games than those who want to be be forced into being a Directv customer just to get Sunday Ticket
