Actually it makes sense that the weakest arm is in LF.

RF needs cannon to keep runners from going 1st to 3rd.

LF has the least responsibility regarding keeping runners in check

Yoenis Cespedes was the exception

If Rickey singled/walked in todays game you might as well just put him on 3rd base.

Same with Vince Coleman.

The great ones say stealing 3rd was easier than 2nd.

it’s not because the hitters were 98-pound weaklings.

A lot of them were though… I know people know the seats at Fenway Park were designed for 1912 people who were shorter and smaller than people now, so why wouldn’t that be the same for the players?

One stat I’ve never seen that might be valid for a guy like Ricky, is On Second Base Percentage (or On Third Base Percentage)

yeah if they even call him up in the woke era

Ty Cobb wasn’t racist. He was actually extremely open and friendly to black people. He owned a fair amount of real estate in Georgia and rented much of the land out to black renters and buyers at good prices during a time in which it was hard for black families to find fair land deals. He even built a number of houses on the lands he owned himself and maintained them for his renters. He’d grown up around black people his whole life and didn’t see them as any different. Bitch arse sports writers drug his name and legacy through the mud because he hated them and the other big city types that ran baseball. It’s horribly fricked up how a real man of the people like Ty now has the reputation of a hateful bigot when it couldn’t be further from reality.

Honus Wagner hit an inside-the-park HR at the age of 41.

Not so much. Wagner was 5' 11" and 200 pounds. Fast as lightning, too. He probably ends up a running back in modern times.

A few old-timers.

Ty Cobb 6' 1" 175
Babe Ruth 6' 2" 215 ( he was not the tubby guy we all think of, that was at the tail end of his career)
Tris Speaker 5' 11" 193

For comparison.

Barry Bonds 6' 1" 185
Rickey Henderson is 5' 10" 180

People are generally bigger now but much of that is related to nutrition. There have always been a few who were bigger and stronger than the masses and many athletes of that day were those folks.

Cobb filled out as he got older, in his 30s he was probably in 180s to 190s.

Honus was ripped for his era. He looks heavy but he had a huge chest, and as I mentioned he actually trained in the offseason as best as people could back then.

Wagner had oddly long arms and huge hands, a big advantage given the lousy gloves he had to use.

220 I get but how did roids add an inch to his height? Muscle on the bottom of his feet?

Since we're discussing Rickey.

Thirty years ago today Rickey Henderson lead off both games of a double header with a HR.

First time since 1913.

On this day in 1953, Robin Roberts threw his 28th consecutive complete game.

No, they list him as 6'1, but he's really 6'2.

he reallly would be.

Steaks are up across the league. he was freakish for even his time.

his Analytics are elite too. His WAR was most years would put him at least in the top 10.

28 straight complete games??? Well put that one down as a record that will never be touched in todays wussy baseball. And pitchers back then pitched on 3 days rest. Todays pitchers can have a no hitter going in the 5-6 inning and they get yanked. And it’s called a “ quality start”. Such bull crap…

He was pretty unstoppable anyway. No matter the number of throws to first he’d steal anyway. It just had the effect of wearing out the pitcher.
