RIP

Not gonna lie, if you would have told me 40 years ago he’d make it 78 I’d be surprised

That heart took a lot of stress.

He wasn't even 60 when he retired, no way I would've guessed that.

John Thompson was one of the only people to tell
Rayful Edmond to GTFO and stay away from his players, and he did. Thompson was a DC legend, he’s on Saban’s level in the sense that what he said around a university and community got done no questions asked.

Same here. He was 31 years old when he got the Georgetown job. He took an elite, lilly-white, private school who had very little basketball history before he arrived and was able to recruit almost exclusively black kids (many from tough upbringings) to make them one of THE powerhouses of the 1980's. He's probably on the Mount Rushmore of DC sports figures

I grew up watching SU-Georgetown games in the '80s. They basically built the Big East and ESPN. RIP, Big John.
