The Arizona Cardinals are backing off their plan to select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft this Thursday, according to Pete Prisco of CBS Sports.

That could mean the Cards are sticking with Josh Rosen as their QB. The Patriots had been rumored this offseason to be interested in acquiring Rosen, a first-round pick in 2018 out of UCLA, as a backup to Tom Brady.

Here's Prisco's assessment, via CBS Sports HQ: Initially, the ownership pushed for Kyler Murray. That much I know, I was told that. The reason they did is they are having a hard time selling tickets. Well, they put it out there. Arizona was lukewarm to it. All of a sudden, they are pulling back and from what I've been told, they are going to go in a different direction. They are not going to draft Kyler Murray.

Prisco now has Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams going No. 1 to Arizona in his mock draft and Murray going No. 4 to the Oakland Raiders.

Another draft season, another report refuting some other reports.

So many head fakes with the draft, who knows if this is BS. If he doesn't go to Arizona, then where do you guys think he will be picked?

Yahoo Sports, definitely a reputable source.

I can’t picture Gruden giving up on Carr yet. Assuming no trades, Tampa is first realistic landing spot. I would actually not be surprised in the least if they moved on from Winston despite Arians claiming his commitment.

There are any number of teams that would trade up and that’s most likely to happen I think.

First line in the article says it’s not their report.

Nah, Murray is going first. It may not be the Cards, but it'll be in the #1 spot. If the cards moved on from Murray, they wouldn't be letting everyone know

Exactly. It’s absolute hack reporting. They are basing it off a mock draft from Prisco that says he has a “hunch” the Cardinals don’t select Murray and Yahoo is reporting it as fact.

Seriously read Prisco’s last posted article LINK

Any draft news about teams backing off or all of a sudden liking a player a week before the draft = 100% smoke screen.

Arizona ownership being stupid shouldn’t really be a story at this point.

This team has so many holes on it that it isn’t funny. Murray shouldn’t have been on the radar at all unless they were convinced he was the next Peyton or Tom Brady.

Drafting him to sell tickets is the kind of shortsighted crap that has them as bottom feeders of what has been one of the worst divisions of the NFL since they went to four-team mini-divisions.

To trade down a few spots and get an extra pick and still take Murray.
To get more interest from New England for Rosen.

But your leverage is higher if you say we're taking him(unless somebody blows us away with an offer), even if you don't plan on taking him.

To be fair, isn't this when the Baker to Cleveland stuff came up, or am I making that up?

It’s hard to believe anything in the media at this point in the year. It’s at its worst right before draft time.

If I'm a shitty team without a QB, I'm drafting a QB first overall until I get one.
