Didn’t read all that. Is there a chance that UCLA is blocked from joining Big 10?

No

UCLA is a lot of things but it isn't stupid. This has been vetted.

That's why the Pac is just all talk and threats. Go ahead file a lawsuit, see where that gets you.

I don't give a shite about UCLA moving to the Big 10, but he's not wrong.

It creates a bunch of travel and missed school.

This is more about the non-revenue sports than football.

Yup, and it's not just them. Stillwater and Norman are 1.5 hours from each other and won't be playing, but both schools will have to travel to Florida for conference games.

The Pac 12 is an alleged Power Five conference and is having to resort to embarrasing begging to a public body.

How pathetic and beta.

Could you imagine if a school told Sankey they wanted to leave the SEC?

After Sankey stopped laughing, he would say... ok hand over your keys and security will escort you from the building.

(And yes... UCLA climiate change thoughts are laughable given this move... but to me the bigger issue is how pathetic the Pac 12 is)

Nope. All the California Board of Regents can do is establish different ground rules for the future if one of their public universities wants to change conferences.

This whole situation is quite funny. States throughout the country have systematically defunded public higher education institutions and told them to find new revenue sources. UCLA specifically does that, and now the Board of Regents is upset because they're being too entrepreneurial.

Exactly.

UC system is bankrupt, California is bankrupt, UCLA is bankrupt.

UC system is trying to save their flagship when the whole thing is sinking like the Titanic.

While football fan attendance is alarmingly low, adding UCLA basketball is certainly a win.

Finally, Kliavkoff said added travel runs contrary to the UC system's climate goals and works against UCLA's commitment to "climate neutrality" by 2025.

Board Chair Richard Leib emphasized that the proposal is aimed at future campus actions. But it was triggered by widespread concerns among regents about the financial impact UCLA’s decision to leave the Pac-12 in 2024 could have on UC Berkeley.

The board did not take action Thursday, deciding to refer the matter to the governance committee to hash out at a future meeting. Nor did regents answer the big question: whether they would try to cancel the controversial deal.

Leib said he did not want to give a timeline as to when those decisions would be made because “there’s still basic information we don’t know,” declining to be more specific.

Some of UCLA’s new revenue could be diverted to Cal if the UC regents force UCLA to subsidize its sister school’s athletic department as a penalty for leaving the Golden Bears in a diminished Pac-12. At the UC regents meeting last month on the UCLA campus, it was estimated that the departures of the two Los Angeles schools would cost the Pac-12 roughly $13 million in lost media rights revenue annually.
