Michigan State lost to Oregon 48-14 before Oregon was Oregon. Michigan State needed two OTs to beat freakin' Indiana. They lost to Colorado State and shitty Minnesota.

MSU must have had a shitty coach

Oregon fricking State just had their number for whatever reason.

Oregon State was pretty good in 2006 and 2008. They had NFL QBs in both years and some really good skill players.

Not him

But 21.3 ppg or 12.5 ppg

Clearly 2004.

Definitely 2004. Their 2005 defense had some rough games. Gave up 42 to Fresno and got steamrolled for a lot of the Arizona State game that year.

Fresno was good that year though. Someone earlier said that was a 8-5 WAC team, which is true, but they were either 7-1 or 8-1 going into that USC game. They never recovered from blowing that game.

I think it was 21-3 and then Bush and White ran for something like 9000 yards in the second half

Now your just fricking with me.

2004 was one of the most balanced teams of all-time.

So many teams when a title based on one side of the ball. 2004 - Studs on O, studs on D.

If you're talking only USC's 3-year run...

2003 - D
2004 - both
2005 - O

Back to Ohio State, I read somewhere that John Cooper lamented that they didn't have a playoff in the 90's. No shite...so many times they finished #4 or higher.

FSU/Ohio State would have been great benefactors of a playoff in the 90's.

That Arizona St team almost beat LSU and put up 31 points on a talented LSU defense

He took a lot of amazing teams into Michigan week and lost. They controlled their national title destiny every year from 1995-1997 and lost to two mediocre Michigan teams in 95 and 96 and lost a tough game to them in 1997.

My gripe with the 05 USC defense isn't from that game. They played like shite early but settled down and won. Same as the game at Oregon.

Their performance against notre dame, Texas and Fresno was awful.

Notre Dame and Fresno were rough games for them. Texas was VY going into god mode. There was absolutely nothing they could have done that night. He was too good.

I actually saw SC in person both years - once in LA and the other in South Bend. SC's 04 vintage was the best defense they had during the Carroll era. That team legit looked like an NFL team. They also ended Ty Willingham's tenure at ND, which was nice of them.

Their 05 team was more a handful of absolute superstars - especially Bush - surrounded by some pretty good players, but they had more holes and were not as complete.

Somewhat on the other side, but our 05 offense was damn good, though. Quinn was a very good college QB, and Samardzija, Stovall, and Fasano were a lethal-as-hell receiving corps.

Darius Walker was a big part of that

08 was carroll's best defense, but point well made anyway.

That's the worst John Cooper loss. He had stacked teams and this was probably his best. And they totally choked.

I wasn't in the stadium that day. But watching it on TV was awful, we could just never get anything going.
