Goff was their last 1st round pick in 2016.

2017 pick was traded for Goff

2018 pick was traded for Brandin Cooks

2019 they traded out of the 31st pick

2020 and 2021 were traded for Jalen Ramsey

2022 and 2023 were traded for Matt Stafford

Seems to have worked out fine for them though.

They’ll be in cap purgatory because the only way they’re be bringing in talent for years to come is FA. They basically have no draft this year now. It’s all... poof. Gone.

In 8 years, the Rams have gone from the RG3 trade haul of this:

To now having no 1st round picks for 8 straight seasons.

And they went to a SB w/O all those picks.

So they’ve, more or less, sacrificed 3 first round picks to land on their 2021 starting QB.

And they've been to the super bowl and have consistently been competitive. Its probably not sustainable but they have been making work

They are taking the whole superstar or rookie contract thing to the extreme.

The strategy is solid, imo. Establish yourselves as a consistently good team. Use L.A. as an additional selling point to attract talent since it is a nice place to live if you are young and rich.

McVay has more or less been figured out. If the Niners can stay even a little healthy next year they’ll take back the NFCW easily.

You build teams through the draft is so 1970s.

Pats rarely had any good drafts and traded away most of their 1st round picks if they had any.

So since 2000 the 1st td picks for NE that are big time players and starters
Seymour
Wilfork
Watson
Mankins
Maroney
Merriweather
Mayo
McCourtney
Solder
Jones
Hightower
Brown
Michel
Harry

So your assumption was wrong, as usual. Teams build through the draft

Only about 50% of first round players workout depending how you define success. If you are willing to pay, you can reduce risk by bringing in established players.

And they went to the Super Bowl and played like Lambs because the fix was on with the NOLA no call.

That strategy requires a lot of cheating.
