Ok Seriously... what was the last Yankee player to hit FA that the Yankees failed to sign and wanted but outbid?

Pettitte left because he felt unwanted.

Jeter should just can play right...

Pettite signed what a 3 year 30 million contract with Astros? Did Yankees offer something lower or match it? I forget how all of it went down.

Apparently, Pettite's wife wanted him out of New York because he was getting some hanky panky on the side.

It was after the 2003 season. The Yankee were going crazy, signing Kevin Brown, Javier Vazquez, Gary Sheffield, and they traded for A-Rod. There was so much going on, and Pettitte was kinda pissed that the Yankees didn't show him that they wanted him more or pay more attention to a guy who helped them win 4 titles.

ETA: The Yankees made a very tepid effort to re-sign him.
