A lot of us on here penciled them in for an early exit based on previous year’s failures in early rounds. They responded from the FDU loss as well as UVa rebounded in 2019. The only difference is the UConn buzzsaw. This year was a helluva job by the program.

Well you would hope so, he has 2 time player of year on his staff. Beating a 16 seed, should be a given.

Let see where ole painter is next year

Purdue needed a rebounding power forward and a guard who could shoot from outside to keep it closer.

Edey had 10 rebounds, and the next five leading rebounders in the game were all from UConn.

Any relation to Curtis Painter?

He was a safety for the FB team a long while back.

They needed a few more guys that could create their own shot . Had too many stand still jump shooters. Until they faced the one team who could play their big man with out doubling they could just kick to an open jump shooter. Last night showed that they haven't got many guys who can create their own shot off the dribble. Edney finally couldn't just bully down low all night . He scored 37 but that was their whole offense.

Edey is a perfect fit for UConn if he wants one more year

Purdue surrounds him with a bunch of white boys that can’t play

He was. I'll never forget the Saints beating him and that god awful Colts team 62-7 in the Superdome.

Painter is the Les Miles of college basketball without a title. W T F was he thinking last night not attempting a comeback with 3s? He was fine with just stat padding Edey

I just don't think their guards could get shots. But, it was weird to watch - a 10 point lead felt like 20 because they would not take any threes.

This.

Purdue had shooters. They finished 2nd in the nation in 3 point FG %. But like you said, most of those shots came as a result of teams being forced to double Edey who could then kick it out to open shooters. UConn didn't have to double Edey for most of the game. That's why they couldn't get any open shots from outside.

Just a tough matchup because UConn has dudes. More importantly, they have a bunch of unselfish dudes. They could (and did) grind down Purdue on both ends of the floor and get whatever they wanted on offense. And they didn't have to rely on just one guy to do it. Everyone on the floor was capable of producing.

It's also why Alabama was the only team to really challenge UConn. Alabama had a better collection of athletes than UConn. But UConn's experience, savvy, and discipline eventually won out.

Would have liked to see Jaden Ivey on this Purdue team. They were really missing a guy that can get his own shot when he wants.

UConn defense didn’t allow Purdue space for 3’s. Where were the open looks?
